Of course, the headphone-endorsement business has been good to Dr. Dre, a.k.a. Andre Young. The same endeavor has been good to Jimmy Iovine, not to mention American Idol and Interscope Records. And the cash the two are ponying up is for a good cause:

There are some bad immigrants out there, from ecstasy dealers to robbers to murderers, and deporting them is probably the least we could do.

But being booted out of the country for barking dogs? That's what Southern California resident Ruth Montano was facing. At least until the ACLU stepped in:

California Sen. Ricardo Lara is introducing the "Youth Equality Act" to try to remove the Boy Scouts of America's tax-exempt status because it discriminates against gays.

Lara aims to pass bill SB 323, which would end 501(c)3 status for all youth groups that continue to discriminate against homosexual youth in California. This bill would force organizations with discriminatory policies to pay corporate taxes on all donations and other forms of income.

The senator's office explains the bill in a statement:

It's February. It'll be 24 degrees and might snow tonight in New York City as frigid Canadian wind sweeps the East. It's 30 degrees in Boston, Chicago is dropping soon to 14 degrees (sweet Jesus), and even in San Francisco it's 50 degrees and oppressively gray -- naturally. In Los Angeles, it's 73 degrees and it feels like perfect -- the air is silky cool and the sunshine is like a wet kiss.

Some people say Los Angeles has no seasons. They're wrong. We have seasons. We just have perfect effing weather 300 days out of the year. Suck it, rest of the world. The weather is Reason No. 10 to Love Los Angeles and never, ever leave. Here are the nine others:

9. Parades

Los Angeles is famous for many things, but one stands high above all others: It's the world capital of moving large objects slowly through the streets.

The Boy Scouts of America marching in the Rose Parade.
The Boy Scouts of America's decision to let local chapters in Los Angeles and nationwide decide whether or not to continue a controversial ban on openly homosexual members is generating near-silence in Scouting in L.A., which has one of the nation's largest population of gay young people.

The national board recently decided that its longtime gay ban conflicts with the Boy Scout mission "to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime." Yet in Los Angeles, few Scout officials or leaders seem willing to talk about it:

California is the state with more billionaires than any place in America except America itself. SoCal coastal property is gold. And Hollywood generates billions.

But, according to a new U.S. Census measure of poverty, we're also tops in poor people.

Yep, the bureau's "Supplemental Poverty Measure" numbers, culled from 2011 stats, say that ...

Shark Attack Map of California Will Give You Chills in This Heat Wave

You will never be attacked by a shark. We guarantee it.

The odds are 1 in 11.5 million. In 2010, in fact, you were 16 more times likely to have been killed by a dog than by a shark. And you haven't been killed by a dog lately, have you?

And still, as we bake in summer heat, the allure of the Pacific is tempered only by that nagging feeling that something is lurking beneath the surface, ready to snack on your leg as if it's human sushi. It does happen, and this proves it:

After the 4th of July mishap on San Diego Bay -- a story that echoed around the world -- disappointment was rampant. Finger-pointing went viral.

But a funny thing happened:
