That nutjob senator from Oklahoma had it wrong: It's not climate change that's the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American People.
It's bottled water. Way back at the Bioneers conference in 2005, when I traded my Nalgene bottle for a stainless steel Klean Kanteen, which I fill with filtered tap water, I had reservations about drinking bottled water that had been transported from Australia/Fiji/England/France/Venus in plastic. I was only concerned about my health back then, not so much the planet.
But after reading about plastic in the oceans, plastic in the landfills, the environmental cost of manufacturing and disposing of plastic bottles and this:
[I]n Fiji, a state-of-the-art factory spins out more than a million bottles a day of the hippest bottled water on the U.S. market today, while more than half the people in Fiji do not have safe, reliable drinking water. Which means it is easier for the typical American in Beverly Hills or Baltimore to get a drink of safe, pure, refreshing Fiji water than it is for most people in Fiji.
(From a fine bottled-water exposé on Fast Company ) I've become a tap-water fascist.
I gently lecture everybody who insists that bottled water is the only healthy way to live. I recite statistics about the relative safety and health of municipal water supplies. I remind them that, as a New York Times editorial pointed out last week, if we don't drink our tap water we won't invest in our clean water infrastructure, and we'll all be like Fiji: The only people with clean water are the ones who can pay for it. "The last thing America needs," said the NYT, "is two water streams — one for the rich and another for the rest of us."

But just as this movement was gaining steam, along comes the Metropolitan Water District, hell bent on going through with its four-year plan to fluoridate Southern California's tap water. As of October 29, the MWD will begin adding 0.8 parts per million fluoride to the water of 18 million customers in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and parts of San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties. Whether you like it or not. (They call it "adjusting" the fluoride levels in water, because Southern California water already has naturally occurring fluoride concentrations of 0.1 to 0.4 parts per million.)
Why? Because the American Dental Association says so. Fluoride kills decay-causing microbes on contact, and the ADA believes fluoride is a public health necessity, especially for children. Does it matter if those children also get little white spots on their enamel, an undisputed side-effect of preventing tooth decay with fluoride called "enamel fluorosis"? Or if several studies have strongly suggested that fluoridated drinking water may disrupt thyroid function, lower IQs and cause an increase in a rare form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma, in children?
The Environmental Working Group has been arguing for months now that several studies have been released in the last four years that cast doubt on the public-health value of fluoridated drinking water. Even the American Dental Association, in its "Interim Guidance on Fluoride Intake for Infants and Young Children," recommends that infant formula should be mixed with non-fluoridated bottled water to avoid exposing babies to dangerously high levels of fluoride.
This is crazy. The more I read about it, the crazier it gets. Even if it's true that the ingestion of fluoride (as opposed to its topical application) prevents tooth decay, why do we have to have industrial-waste silicofluoride chemicals -- chemicals that have never been FDA-approved for human ingestion -- forced on us in our drinking water? Why can't we choose it in our toothpaste, for example (I, personally, don't)?
Simply because a certain percentage of lower-income families may not choose that toothpaste. "[Fluoridation] is a powerful strategy to reduce disparities in tooth decay among different populations and is more cost-effective than other forms of fluoride treatments or applications," says the ADA.
In other words, it saves money. Intriguingly, even though the URL "fluoridealert.org" belongs to the anti-fluoridation Fluoride Action Network, "fluoridealert.com" will redirect you to an ADA-controlled Web site, where you'll learn that "The average cost for a community to fluoridate its water is estimated to range from approximately $0.50 a year per person in large communities to approximately $3 a year per person in small communities. For most cities, every $1 invested in water fluoridation saves $38 in dental treatment costs."
Given that 108 million Americans have no dental insurance, that dentists often have to fill cavities below cost in rural and low-income urban communities, this represents a cost-savings bonanza for the dental profession. Better that adults should come in to have their teeth capped, bonded and whitened due to enamel fluorosis than that a dentist should have to fill another child's cavity on an Indian reservation in Alaska.
I don't buy the conspiracy theory that municipal water fluoridation is just a cheap way for industry to dump its fluoride. But I do believe the ADA, which has been known to suppress the opinions of dentists opposed to fluoridation, has something at stake in the fluoride issue. And it isn't an altrustic concern for public health.

I respect the Environmental Working Group, but these fears of fluoridation seem overheated to me. Tooth decay is a serious medical issue. Because my family happens to be on a well, our water has no flouride in it at all. Our dentist recommended flouride pills for our children, which they took, and grew up with no spots on their teeth, no other medical problems whatsoever...and no cavities. (Unlike the older members of the family, who didn't have this advantage, and have had to spend hours and countless dollars at the dentist.)
I admit I haven't researched this issue beyond reading newspaper stories, but my personal experience does not lead me to fear flouride -- quite the contrary, actually.

Four years ago I left L.A. and since then have been living on an old ranch east of Sacramento, one with its own water supply, sans chlorine and fluoride. The water has been tested and is very safe and tastes as good as H2O from the highest of High Sierra peaks.
Skin is the human body's largest organ, by far.
It can absorb chemicals as easy as it can expel.
It breathes even; (give yourself a thick body coat of paint and see how long you live).
Before I moved north I had regular spells of acute arthritic pain in my hips, on average of every six weeks, for years. Turning over at night or getting from the bed to the bathroom during those spells was an excruciating experience. Between spells I got PLENTY of walking exercise
every day.
Would anyone like to explain to me why I've not had a single serious spell of hip arthritis since I moved away from L.A., since I began drinking and showering in untainted water?
Moreover, at that time, I stopped using fluoride toothpaste as well, after investigating the opinions of a host of very dedicated and knowleageble medical specialists regards the effects of fluoride on a goodly portion of the human population. (And no, I do not use hydrogen peroxide on my teeth/gums. Through diligent flossing and brushing combined with the use of a certain common elixir, one can remain quite free of dental carries their entire life - a fact which the ADA and the entire dental profession DO NOT want you to know about, folks).
Educate yourselves.

Hi Kit! Thanks for stopping by. Sorry it took me so long to catch up. I've been reading your posts on Grist and liking 'em.
In part, I agree with you. But here's the thing: Say some people are sensitive to fluoride, and some aren't, just in the way some people may react more violently to mercury than others. Shouldn't we get to choose how we feel about fluoride? As the daughter of two parents who died very young (in their 50s), one from cancer, I err far on the side of the chemical-free life. I wouldn't even take iron supplements when I've been anemic, because I'm not sure they weren't implicated in my mother's colon cancer. This is my choice; someone else's may be different. And it disturbs me greatly that there may be evidence that fluoride makes some people sick, and people at risk can't choose to avoid it in their city water.
landscape_vision thanks for the comment. I'm not sure it was L.A. water that was making you sick, because fluoride hasn't yet been added to it. Unless it was something else in the city water. Or something else in the city. Who knows.
Does that elixir involve sesame oil?

Well, you raise a good point. I don't know the answer, but I'm confident people would not like more tooth decay in their lives -- heck, back in the Neanderthal days before we had pliers, tooth decay is believed to have meant death for a substantial amount of the human population.
I've also been enjoying your work -- especially that full and rich report on the LA River. You're fortunate to write for a publication that will give you that kind of space, but the Weekly is fortunate to have you, too.

Hey, just discovered an exciting, new product that has revolutionized our family's portable water situation... Corn bottles! Made from corn starch they won't poison you, they're reusable for up to 90 fills, and biodegrade in commercial compost. The added benefit: my kids can refill them at their LAUSD drinking fountains, thereby eliminating the horrible taste. Just don't leave 'em in a hot car! (they melt) I do not work for the company, just a happy consumer. http://www.newwaveenviro.com/corn-resin-bottle-with-the-better-water-drinking-filter-p-87.html

That's great, but where do you find "commercial compost" in Los Angeles? San Francisco has it, but so far L.A. hasn't got it together to figure out what to do with corn plastics. But they're probably at least a lot healthier than petroleum-based plastics.

Hasn't fluoride ingestion been shown to induce passivity?

To Kit Stoltz: Take care when citing personal anecdotes. Symptoms of dental fluorosis can show up many years after exposure. Our exposure is increasing daily. It affects the brain and pineal gland and has been linked in many studies to reduced IQ, premature puberty in girls, among other things.
Water infrastructure is a huge problem worldwide. In the US, municipal plants treat 100% of water to potable standards when only 1% is used for drinking. The answer is point of service filtration. Inexpensive RO systems are available. Colloidal silver and hydrogen peroxide are excellent water purifiers and will help with dental caries, as will good nutrition. Fluoride is poison and is one of the biggest scams pulled on people worldwide.

Fluoride in toothpaste is just plain old RAT POISON, the stuff they put in the water supply is a dangerous toxic waste called HEXOFLUROSILIC ACID which was a weapon of mass destruction that was planned to be put in the water supply's across Germany to poison the population in WW11, even then that plan was deemed to horrific to carry out,it's just taken 60 years for them to enforce this plan on the population at large, get a berkey water filter system and make your own drinking water.
Posted on November 2, 2007 1:07 PM by CARY G DEAN
There are other, more insidious reasons to add fluoride to municipal water supplies: Fluoride affects the part of the brain that facilitates self-assertion and rebellion.
A passive populace--as if PROZAC weren't enough--is useful in a police state.

Fluoride used for water treatment is extremely toxic, more so then lead and slightly less then mercury. Lead is tolerated in minute levels in water standards, yet your average fluoride concentrations are at a rate 100x that permissible for lead. Now if you want to drink that be my guest! You ever seen those guys cleaning up after a toxic spill? Seen all the protective gear they wear? Those involved in putting fluoride into your water wear the same gear! Go figure! Tooth decay is the result of bad diet and too many sugary drinks. Address the problem at its core and less tooth decay results!

It is a well known fact that Nazis used flouride to 'stupidify' people and control the masses. Since we are already so over ppoluuted and medicated either something big is coming or the corporatocracy just needs an efficient way to dispose of more toxic sludge from fertilizer production. Either way it is the common man who pays the price.

If there were any proof that water fluoridation prevented dental caries, that proof should be clearly visible in Kentucky, which is one of the only states that is almost 100% fluoridated, and has been for some time. Instead, Kentucky has one of the worst dental health records in the entire nation, with also one of the highest rates of dental caries and complete toothlessness. (This makes sense since fluoride has been shown on patents to cause gum disease.) I'm not sure why you would refer to scientific data as "conspiracy theory," re municipal water fluoridation is a cheap way of dumping industrial chemical waste, when there is a letter from a gov't official on record stating that this is so. Her name is Rebecca Hamner. Here's her letter.

In addition, I would like to refer you to recent studies that found fluoride to be causative in thyroid malfunction, etc. This is from the scientific group called the National Research Council (NRC) convened by the National Academies. This report is free, and I am attaching the link here.

Anyone can buy/make a Hulda Clark self tester called a synchrometer of her own invention, she gives plans and directions to build it in her books. You can test yourself for these crippling chemicals in your system, then work to eradiacte them before its too late. You can build one with about 20.00 worth of parts and basic electrical knowledge. I already use her "zapper" (plans in her book s also available)to almost instantly get rid of cold/flu bugs.
It's no joke

The theme of choice is refreshing. However the "authorities" route their flouride debate around obvious logic.
Tooth decay is a distraction. If flouride's purpose were dental, then toothpaste content would suffice. There is no reason for ingestion.
The purpose of flouride is mental. Flouride empowers psych drugs like Prozac. It creates a docile, lower-IQ population. Its origins trace back to WWII camps.
Ozone purifies water with beneficial health effects, including dental. It is common in Europe.

'I don't buy the conspiracy theory that municipal water fluoridation is just a cheap way for industry to dump its fluoride.'
That's charitable of you (towards the corporations)! So good to know that this webpage is located inside a 'conspiracy-free zone' where we need not take seriously such ideas that the big corporations actually conspire with politicians against the public interest. Heavens, why would they do that? I feel greatly relieved that you've made your position clear.

Any American who thinks that government beurocrats or some kind of big brother is looking out for their best interests is extremely deluded. Americans are manipulated every single day from radio, tv, and newspapers. No one is looking out for us, but they are looking out to exploit us to buy something. We are nothing but an economic unit. We deserve what we get however, because we will not stop voting for empty suits and blouses.

I have actually suffered greatly from excess fluoridation as have my classmates as we were the first in the US to receive it in the Little Rock water. The percent was determined to be way too high! Twice hence, they had reduced it by greater than half. All of my teeth were brittle and spotted in high school. Only by taking SuperSilver, was I recently able to expell these excitotoxins and actually reclaim my soundness of mind. I don't write well, but my literacy has trippled over this past 6 months. As far as I'm concerned the FDA is bereft of morality on this issue.

Thirty years ago the fluoride level in most of the drinking water in Co Donegal (pop today 140,000) was 'adjusted' from virtually zero to 0.8 to 1 ppm. This year people's fluoride intake was sampled in three fluoridated areas and SEVEN in TEN people are above the UK Food Standards Agency 'safe' upper limit for fluoride. Added to this evidence of major fluoride overload from drinking water, is the negligence of the MWB in not heeding the World Health Organisation's warning in 1994 that 'the total fluoride exposure in the population must be checked before introducing any additional fluoride pprogramme'. Californians have been badly misled just as we were in Ireland 40 yrs ago.

It is historical fact that the Nazi camps in WWII fluoridated the prisoners water supply. Research had discovered that fluoride made the prisoners docile.
In 2003, after the 10 year battle with the Orange County Board of Supervisors, in which a small group of citizens' ranks swelled into the hundreds of thousands of activists and defeated the county planners and developers' plans to install an 800+ flight operations a day mega airport at El Toro Marine Air Station, this same board voted unanimously to increase the fluoride content of the OC municipal water supply.
Knowing what I knew about fluoride at that time, I decided to move. I sold my Laguna Niguel home and moved to the countryside of southern France. No regrets there.
My medically inexplicable neurological problems, which were beginning to present ever increasingly disturbing symptoms, slowly vanished as my time in France extended. They are now gone.
I can only surmise that the unavoidable exposure to fluoride was part of my problem. It is in everything... processed food, bottled drinks, even in the meat and vegetables which were raised on municipal water sources.
My moving away from fluoridated water and the products made from that water, along with now living in an area of the world that is not blanketed with electromagnetic and microwave radiation "smog" are the only things in my physical life that have changed. My health improvements are undeniable.
To those who cling to the myth that fluoridated water reduces cavities, I challenge you to provide one piece of peer reviewed science supporting that supposition. I have spent a great deal of time researching this issue, for a great many years. I have yet to find any independent research to confirm this lie. On the other hand, there are reams of credible research that indicate safety concerns of a rather frightening nature.

Fluoride was first used in drinking water by Nazis. It was effective in sterilizing inmates and making them docile. It's a key ingredient of Prozac and Sarin nerve gas where it's main use is 'dumbing down'.
There is absolutely no need to add Fuoride to drinking water. especially not that amount.
I would be on high alert if I lived in the LA. Something big is probably being planned.

edited to add:
Incidentally, the Romans lined their aqueducts with lead which fed water into the homes of the wealthier citizens, while the peasants had to fetch their water from a stream (along with using wooden utensils to eat as apposed to lead utensils enjoyed by the elite).
Mind you, the Romans didn't know that lead was a potent neurotoxin responsible for many neurological ailments the elite were experiencing, so after noticing the peasants did not share the same ill health, the advantaged began mimicking the lifestyle of the poor in an attempt to eliminate the unknown source of their ills.
Hate to tell you, but fluoridation is our modern day Roman feux pas, and future historians will look back upon our civilization and wonder what we were thinking purposely poisoning our water supply.

Please note one thing regarding floridation in municipal water supplies: THEY DO NO USE CALCIUM FLUORIDE WHICH OCCURES NATURALLY IN ROCK FORMATIONS. THEY USE A PRODUCT THAT IS ACTUALLY A BY-PRODUCT OF MANUFACTORING CALLING FLUORINE AND THAT IS WHAT IS ADDED TO THE WATER.
Calcium fluoride is present in much of the water in the Rocky Mountains from leaching of the water running over and through the deposits and occurs in small amounts.
The co-called "fluoride" used in water systems is the third level: calcium fluoride, sodium fluoride, fluorine. Fluorine is nasty stuff! The Nazi's used sodium fluoride in the water in the concentrations camps not for control of cavities in the inmates -- it was used to create placid and manipulative persons in the compounds. These last two compounds cause significant bone loss, multiple health issues, and are cumulative in nature. There is nothing "good" about putting "fluoride" into the drinking water. Add to the brew the chlorne (bleach) and the interactions these two chemicals (neither is a single element) and you have a nice witch's brew creating multiple health problems and exacerbating still others.
Food for thought....

It´s not only all about costs.
In the 1940`s the nazi germany used flouridation to calm the insurgents in the concentration camps.
Due to toxical examination it was found the flouride has an certain effect on the brain, in order to depress the higher functions. The experiences had become part of the materia medica of homoeopathy, where you can read concerning mind and behavieour: apathy, indifference against the most loved persons, like familiy.
there are also some very serious concerns about the impact of flouride on enzymes, whih you can read here:

End Fluoridation, Say 500 Physicians, Dentists, Scientists And Environmentalists
Article Date: 10 Aug 2007 - 1:00 PDT
In a statement released recently, over 600 professionals are urging Congress to stop water
fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted. They cite new scientific evidence that
fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks.
Signers include a Nobel Prize winner, three members of the prestigious 2006 National Research
Council (NRC) panel that reported on fluoride's toxicology, two officers in the Union representing professionals at EPA headquarters, the President of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment, and hundreds of medical, dental, academic, scientific and environmental professionals, worldwide.
Signer Dr. Arvid Carlsson, winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize for Medicine, says, "Fluoridation is
against all principles of modern pharmacology. It's really obsolete."
Paul Connett, PhD, Executive Director of the Fluoride Action Network (FAN), announced that
an Online Action Petition to Congress in support of the Professionals' Statement will soon be
available at FAN's web site, http://www.fluorideaction.org.
"The NRC report dramatically changed scientific understanding of fluoride's health risks," says
Connett. "Government officials who continue to promote fluoridation must testify under oath as
to why they are ignoring the powerful evidence of harm in the NRC report," he added.
An Assistant NY State Attorney General calls the report "the most up-to-date expert authority on
the health effects of fluoride exposure."
The Professionals' Statement also references:
-- The new American Dental Association policy recommending infant formula NOT be prepared
with fluoridated water.
-- The CDC's concession that the predominant benefit of fluoride is topical not systemic.
-- CDC data showing that dental fluorosis, caused by fluoride over-exposure, now impacts one third of American children.
-- Major research indicating little difference in decay rates between fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities.
-- A Harvard study indicating a possible link between fluoridation and bone cancer.
-- The silicofluoride chemicals used for fluoridation are contaminated industrial waste and have never been FDA- approved for human ingestion.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a DC watchdog, revealed that a Harvard professor
concealed the fluoridation/bone cancer connection for three years. EWG President Ken Cook
states, "It is time for the US to recognize that fluoridation has serious risks that far outweigh any minor benefits, and unlike many other environmental issues, it's as easy to end as turning off a valve at the water plant."

I also reject having my water tampered with. Wouldn't it be more effective to give fluoride pills to those who want them???? Why do I have to go out and buy an expensive water filtration system to get rid of this poison??? Thank you.

URGENT!
Know that the actual 'illicit chemical cocktail' that is ‘corruptly sold’ by phosphate chemical corporations to 10’s of 1000’s of government regulated municipal water treatment plants all over North America is an USA-EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] 'Regulated Potential Pollutant' of Air, Water and Land that is currently derived from primarily the Phosphate ore mining & processing industries ‘HAPS’ units [e.g. Hazardous Air Pollution Scrubbers], and as ‘Silicofluoride’ is regulatorily classified by EPA as a 'Class 1 ..'HAZARDOUS WASTE'.
Politically appointed USA-EPA highest management is primarily in ‘political complicity’ to allow Silicofluorides to be sold and metered into our precious USA drinking waters. However, recently around 7,000+ EPA professional CAREER ‘non-politically hired’ Scientists, Toxicologists, Chemists, and professional field health workers signed a Petition to EPA top Management requesting ‘fluoridation’ be stopped. The excellent well referenced book by Christopher Bryson titled "The Fluoride Deception" reports that, "During the Cold War, Dr. Harold C. Hodge, who had been the toxicologist for the US Army Manhattan Project, was the leading scientific promoter of water fluoridation. While Dr. Hodge was reassuring congress of the safety of water fluoridation, he was covertly conducting one of the nation’s first public water fluoridation experiments in Newburgh, New York, secretly studying biological samples from Newburgh citizens at his US laboratory at the University of Rochester." Hodge is not implicated in the 47 death by radioactive injection experiments by the same ghouls.

The main issue with fluoridation is that as forced mass medication it contravenes basic human rights. Drinking it is useless at best and dentists agree that it must be applied topically to be of any benefit. Furthermore, if 90% or more of water is merely used for washing, etc., then why pollute our environment with even more toxic chemicals, which in this case are byproducts of the fertiliser and aluminum manufacturing industries and not naturally-occurring calcium fluoride?
The most significant recent study was released by the (US) National Research Council (NRC) in March 2006, which found that babies are fluoride overdosed from "optimally" fluoridated water supplies and could find NO SAFE LOWER LIMIT for fluoride consumption.
Still, if I spiked your drink in a bar would you be happy about it? Probably not. Why is it too much to demand, then, that our children have the right to be protected from something that has never been approved by the FDA and which has never been shown to be safe for human consumption?

"The real reason behind water fluoridation is not to benefit children`s teeth. If this were the real reason there are many ways in which it could be done that are much easier, cheaper, and far more effective. The real purpose behind water fluoridation is to reduce the resistance of the masses to domination and control and loss of liberty." CHARLES E. PERKINS, Chemist, 2 October 1954.
"As a research chemist of established standing, I built within the past 22 years, 3 American chemical plants and licensed 6 of my 53 patents. Hundreds of millions of dollars may be wasted annually on children's fluoride treatments by dentists. Typically given once or twice a year at routine checkups, the treatments do nothing to reduce cavities in kids, says a study of insurance records. Journal of Public Health Dentistry
In June of 1999, the Majority Chairman of the Environmental Resources Committee, Pennsylvania House of Representatives stated ".. there is no solid scientific or medical evidence to show that fluoridation is of any beneficial help to public health, safety or welfare."
The former editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association said he often received telephone calls from irate AMA members and letters from state medical societies and AMA officers "threatening political action against the editor and the Journal for publishing what offended them ideologically, or more likely imposed on (physicians') ability to earn money." (article) - Mr. Lundberg, editor of JAMA for 17 years

Fluoride tablets or drops don't work as advertised because fluoride only works topically as in toothpaste. My kids had the drops and they still had plenty of cavities. Ingesting it serves no purpose. Studies at Harvard indicated bone cancer in boys. The scientists at the EPA oppose fluoridation and their union opposes it.

Fluoride adds up when it's in tap water, bottled water, soda, juices, juice packs, beer, coffee, tea, and every product containing water. Residual amounts end up in dry products that were once wet like cereals. The fluorine molecule is in many pharmaceuticals today and they do affect brain functions. It's been shown to accumulate in the pineal gland, an important hormone control center. I for one wish to limit my toxic load. My government should not be adding to it to my water, making it virtually impossible to avoid.
If persons believe in the stuff they can simply brush their teeth.
How do we undo bad legislation?

I have yet to find a reliable, unbiased scientific study that actually proves fluoride increases dental health and decreases cavities. What I have found in study after study is that in areas with fluoridated water the IQs of the children tend to be lower. There is a higher rate of bone problems, certain cancers, neuro problems and heart attacks. In several studies I read there was no measurable difference in the rate of cavities in areas with fluoridated water vs unfluoridated water.
Where are all these studies proving Fluoride has a dental benefit?
I question whether it has any benefit at all as I have not been able to find any research to support this assumption.
In my research on Fluoride I did discover that the Nazis were using it for mind control during World War 2. It seems that small amounts consumed over a period of time cause permanent changes in the brain and personality creating a more docile individual.
Why does the Crest toothpaste that is sold in Latin American countries have 10 times the amount of Fluoride as toothpaste that is sold in the U.S.? Why is Kellogg's devoting so much time and energy to getting all the drinking water in Latin America highly fluoridated?
The whole fluoride scam reeks of conspiracy.

Kit - back in the Neanderthal days they likely didn't know what cavities were. Check the work of American Dentist, Weston A Price at www.westonaprice.org. Less than 100 years ago he traveled around the world studying indigenous populations who ate their traditional diet and found they were cavity free and had normally structured jaws that allowed their teeth to grow in straight! They not only didn't have a clue about fluoride toothpaste - they had never seen a toothbrush. Why, then, do we need toxic chemicals in our water. Why not go to the root cause - our lousy diet. It not only rots our teeth it is causing our bodies to decompose at a rapid rate.

Recommend everyone read THE FLUORIDE DECEPTION by Christopher Bryson if you really want the facts about water fluoridation.
Posted on November 4, 2007 5:48 AM by M. L. Weston
You're use of the dismissive language "conspiracy theory" in such haphazard fashion shows you're as hoodwinked as most on this issue. Do your due diligence, starting with "The Fluroride Deception" by Christopher Bryson. Even those who argue that fluoride may help prevent dental caries (and it's far from well documented that this is the case) no longer push for water fluridation. The original "thinking" on the subject was that ingesting the poison would help the forming tooth; NOBODY longer buys that theroy today; even the pro-industry fluoride industry researchers admit that fluoride's only benefit can be topical. In the last year or so, more than 150 EPA scientists in California signed a petition to ban or remove fluoride from the water. Do some research in your own state and get back to us.

Sodium Fluoride is one of the secret methods that lion tamers use to make the big cats tractable and docile. They've been using it for almost 100 years.

I believe we have all been brainwashed over fluoride. Evidance has it that it actually increases decay, eg Teotia etc examined the teeth of several hundred thousand children over 30 years and determined that more calcium decreased decay, and more fluoride increased decay. But as one official was quoted as saying decades ago, 'we have said that it works, we can't go back on that.' I believe it destroys the bond between tooth and gum too. Hence more gum disease.

Wake up people – fluoridation of water has nothing to do with tooth decay. It's about controlling the masses. This is a fact you can research.

Linus Pauling often said that the root cause of
disease was a mineral deficiency. Chlorine blocks
the uptake of sulfur and fluorine block the uptake of intracellular oxygen. Chlorine can be evaporated out of
tap water but I do not know if fluoride can.
Your information of the use of fluorine to make the masses pliant makes sense to me but I believe
that the Society of Eugenics is still alive and
bent on eliminating the "sub human" humans,
for the sake of the master race.
Think about who initiates this type of poisoning,
the chemists and they do it without any concern for the harm their chemistry may cause.
While being aware of the fluoride please keep in
mind that the increase in strokes which some believe
is directly related to the chlorine we have been
adding to our water, cholesterol does not cause
strokes but calcium chloride does.

The flouride controversy has resulted in doctors organizing to protest poison being put into drinking water and as a by product of the aluminum industry it is poison use to be sold as rat poison on store shelves. The melon institute did the study that was cited as claiming it was good for your teeth but the melon family owns Alcoa the largest aluminum manufacturer. Coincidence i think not. Their study was flawed and flouride really does not benefit you or your teeth except for maybe 6 months of use when you first get your permanent teeth because permanent flouride crystals embed into your new teeth.

Here's some more interesting things about fluoridation:
1) Fluoridation is not accepted as worthwhile or practiced by most of the developed nations. Why not? It's not that hard to do.
2) Despite 60 years of propaganda that fluoride is safe, the public still doesn't buy it. To increase fluoridation MANDATORY laws have been passed in California and other states. In L.A. city fluoridation was rejected by voters in 1975, the only time they got a chance at the issue. Despite that, fluoridation started in the city in 1999. When voters get information from both sides of the debate, they reject the idea most of the time.
Fluoridated bottled water is not popular, otherwise it would have more than a tiny amount of shelf space at the supermarkets.
3) Fluoride in the past was an effective rat poison. Now it's an insecticide. Ever seen those big tents put over houses to kill termites and insects? They often use a fluoride chemical inside those tents. That same fluroide chemical is now sprayed on food in storage bins to kill the insects before they eat up the food. We swallow this fluoride chemical when we eat foods from these storage bins.
4) There are other negative effects of fluoridation found in government reports you don't hear about. One is delayed tooth eruption in children, probably due to thyroid effects. Another is earlier onset of puberty in girls.
5) There is considerable scientific doubt as to the effectiveness of fluoridation. The millions could be spent on methods that are actually shown to work better.
I think water should be as pure as possible. Water treatment chemicals are added sometimes to treat the water. We don't need dubious chemicals added to treat people.

Please do the research. Flouride is poisen. The effects are long term and may not rear their ugly head for decades. Tooth decay can be combated by not eating garbage and keeping one's teeth clean too. The Rockefellers run the ADA and the AMA and all the decisions are made for profit, including the poisens that have long term effects that keep the medical profession bringing in money. Read Eustice Mullins "Murder by injection" for starters.

After reading articles about this subject what disturbs me the most is that treating people in this way for their teeth is actually illeagal. It violates International law of treating humans without their consent. And if it is put to a vote of the community and just one person says that they do not want this then they shouldn't be putting it into the water.

Adding Fluoride to drinking water is bogus. No scientific study exists that can support this calicum robbing, always accumulating rat poison into your system. It's benefits are a myth, junk science, based on decades of boneheaded misunderstanding, fueld by propaganda. If you want nice teeth, cut out white sugar and brush more often. Putting Fluoride in the water system is a violation of the Nuremberg Treaty, vis a vis mass medication. Don't be duped by anybody who supports this additive for mass consumption. They are flat wrong. Filter your water with a reverse osmosis system to cut this poison out.

Good posts on this site!
There is calcium fluoride, relatively insoluble, Sodium Fluoride, thousands of times more soluble apparently, and so more toxic, then there is 'silly acid' eg hexafluosilicic acid, even more toxic. Guess which one they put in the water?
I believe that is why they just call it 'fluoride'

I've researched and learned that many people like myself are realizing the negative health effects of fluoride in their source water. I've been using the FluorideMaster whole house fluoride water filtration system and am impressed on how well it performs to significantly reduce the floride in my water. I know that the company Vitasalus at http://www.vitasalus.com or http://www.equinox-products.com sells the FlourideMaster Whole Home Fluoride Water Filtration System.
