I guess this Hummer ad is supposed to suggest that because tofu contains phytoestrogens it makes one less masculine, and in order to balance that out, a man has to have a Hummer.
I mean, I think that's what they're saying.
Honestly, I thought it was a parody when I read about it on Metafilter. But it's on the Hummer's own site. So, um, they must be serious.
And I think that means the Hummer is dying a slow but very certain market death.
(The one in the picture might be a nice climate-change ride, though, especially if you live in the Florida Keys or something.)

Now, I think you are being a bit tough on those hummer drivers. We must admit that someone making less than 6ft and 200lb, eating tofu, should be worrying about his manhood. Hummers are just a convenient way to reassure those poor creatures.
Now the question is what if someone IS 6ft and 200lb, bbq master AND has a hummer? what is the need for the balance to be restored …?
In fact, I can’t wait for the bumper sticker on a tiny sissy hybrid car or bicycle saying “I needed to restore the balance too”. Im not sure many hummer drivers would understand the joke though.
This video just confesses that the bigger hummer you drive, the most unsure you are about yourself. And if you ARE already a football team captain, it is even worst!! It is the ultimate insult to all male hummer drivers. Trying to say “your not a man if you don’t have a hummer”, they end up meaning “if you have a hummer, without it, you are not a man”. Blatant confession.
More seriously, what made me stop laughing was to consider that within a handful of years those to-be mechanicals dinosaurs are going to be grounded and/or very expensive to drive/show around. Our poor drivers with MBD (Manhood Balance Disorder) are going to look for the next compensation. And in the States, what makes a man a man after cars, would be guns Im afraid.
The fact that the marketing people, supposedly the most open, to put themselves into the heads of potential customers(even veggy tofu eaters), had it that wrong is also a worrisome hint at the state of self indoctrination of the rest of the auto-business.
They call it gas-guzzler, we call it “that-big-thing-you-always-wished-you-had” (or at least something to compensate for it)

"I needed to restore the balance, too." Very funny. I think the MBD drivers would get it. It wouldn't work for women, though.

Well, for women in regular cars, i would recommend the classic "how many times do we have to tell you that size does not matter?" sticker.
the most peculiar specimen would remain the female suv driver. to who i dedicate "chainsaw for your manicure?".
an other funny reading of the ad is that local-organic veggy/ tofu eaters are soon going to be the only ones able to afford SUVs (if for whatever reason they want one).
in which case, the ad starts to make sense.

Judith, I have such a deep gut hatred reaction for Hummers. You'll enjoy my latest blog post (first in quite a while) on a bank promotion whose first prize is a Hummer...
