In Surprise Move, MOCA Board to Turn Over Operation of Museum to Machine Project Gallery

An unconfirmed report suggests that the Museum of Contemporary Art's board of trustees is ready to turn control of the embattled institution over to a small non-profit art space, Machine Project. "Basically, the board doesn't know what to do," said a source with inside information. "This is a Hail Mary."

It's a move certain to surprise many in the art world, given that philanthropist Eli Broad has offered $30 million to shore up MOCA's endowment - money that Broad insists will come with no strings attached. ("Yeah, right," said the insider, "if you don't mind a contemporary art museum named EDYTHE.")

Another option for MOCA was to allow a takeover by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, but the insider said that the board was torn. "Some members can't stand the proposed new acronym -- MO'LACMA - and others simply can't stand mo' Michael Govan."

After a long night of discussion and drinking, the Machine Project idea came up, though no one can remember who suggested it, said the insider. Run out of a small commercial space on Alvarado Street in Echo Park, Machine is known for its quirky, eclectic programming mixing art and science and craft and, perhaps most importantly, innovation.

On November 15, Machine took over LACMA for a day, turning the venerable institution into an arty, crafty fun-zone, in the process drawing to the Mid-Wilshire campus an army of thin young women and their even thinner, bearded boyfriends who rarely venture west of Eat Well in Silver Lake. MOCA board members were impressed by reports from the event, particularly that of the gothic-arch speed guitarist on the roof, said the insider. "Rosette Delug was really turned on by that."

Attempts to reach Mark Allen, Machine Project's boyish 38-year-old impresario, were unsuccessful. But when told of the MOCA board's plan, a man who answered the phone in the bedroom Allen is said to rent from his sister's ex-boyfriend's ex-wife, said, "WTF?!"

When pressed for examples of what Machine Project might do at MOCA, the man, who identified himself as an associate of Allen's, demurred. Oh c'mon, urged a reporter. A pause, and then the man asked for a fax number and hung up. Thirty minutes later, a fax arrived bearing the heading, "Just Some Ideas":

Übercashfloworgan: A combination Tim Hawkinsonian organ and cash vacuum machine features translucent plastic tentacles reaching from MOCA out onto Grand Avenue and beyond. Passersby are encouraged to donate large-denomination bills by an eerie-but-happy voice created by the organ, and can then watch as their money is sucked up through the tentacles, through MOCA's roof and into a translucent bin near the entrance. Perennial "Guess How Much $ We Have Now?" contests ensue.

The Hole-In-The-Floor Gallery Featuring the Hyperbolic Board Member Reef and Fallen Fruit Torture Chamber: A series of small holes drilled into MOCA's gallery floors reveal, when viewers put their eye to them, a living exhibition below -- of the Institute for Figuring's Margaret and Christine Wertheim crocheting MOCA board members into a hyperbolic coral reef made from blue plastic New York Times bags. Every hour on the hour, as a harpist plays Pachelbel's Canon in D, board members are force-fed overripe kumquats by the Fallen Fruit collective.

Dunk-Da-Director Days: On Sunday afternoons until further notice, an amiable Jeremy Strick, wearing sunglasses, Hawaiian bathing trunks and a T-shirt reading "Who Me?" takes the dunking machine's hot seat. Opportunities to throw the baseball will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. 10 balls for $1 million or 100 balls if you buy now! (Calling Susan Nimoy!) Paypal accepted.

Blue Balls IV: Artists Josh Beckman and Holly Vesecky recreate MOCA's Sam Francis painting, Blue Balls III, using fresh flowers picked from the yards of board co-chairs David G. Johnson and Tom Unterman.

Caught Napping Area: Fight museum-management fatigue in the downstairs lounge, where visitors will find yoga mats, hot Bedtime Tea, and the relaxing sounds of water slowly but surely going down a drain.

The Sad Bassoon Orchestra with the Abbot-Kinney Gregorian Chanting Society: Reedy basso lamentations by 100 high school and collegiate players positioned throughout the galleries, occasionally punctuated by roving and quite weird chanters. Maybe a couple of didgeridoos thrown in, what the hell. Spirits provided by Glenfiddich.

A Minute Without MOCA: Members of the Magic Castle and a couple of really smart guys from Pomona College use smoke, mirrors and the glare off Disney Hall to 'disappear' MOCA. Thousands of witnesses alerted by Facebook are asked to hold their breath and join a feel-good support group until the museum reappears.

BYO Paint Ball, Toilet Paper and Eggs: The Center for Land Use Interpretation leads a bus tour of MOCA board members' homes.

Ask Mr. Gold Answer-Alike Contest: L.A. Weekly's Pulitzer-Prize winning, whale-eating food critic appears, along with several imposters placed throughout the Geffen Contemporary's "Collecting Collections" exhibition of California conceptual art. Ask the Mr. Golds about best (worst?) menudo, deer-colon tacos or how he could dare eat blubber (!). First 25 correct identifications of the real critic get to eat dinner with Mr. Gold at a mini-mall in Alhambra of his choice. Participants who incorrectly identify Mr. Gold have to eat his favorite menudo. (To be videotaped for YouTube.)

The Green-Knight Jousting Tournament: A medieval battle staged between art blogger Tyler Green and Los Angeles Times art critic Christopher Knight. Warm-ups feature both contestants thrusting their big lances into papier-mache likenesses of MOCA board members. Winner of the main event will receive a crown and will be dubbed Sir Blogalot by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The Annual Edward Goldman Academic Conference: Ph.D.s, theorists, critics, curators and deconstructionists from around the globe (well, SoCal at any rate) converge on MOCA for a series of enlightening lectures and discussions on the influential KCRW art critic. Topics will include: "Just who is Edward Goldman?," "Where the heck is he from?," "What exactly is he saying?," "Why does anyone care?," "And what does 'influential' really mean, anyway?"

Joel Wachs Your Eyebrows Day: Visitors can feel good about themselves and the state of contemporary art in Los Angeles as the museum patio is turned into a giant spa! Dozens of manicurists welcome our former city councilman and current president of the Andy Warhol Foundation (and future MOCA director or board chairman?). Sit back, soak your feet in those weird plastic spa chairs while a nice Vietnamese lady does your nails, and dream.

--As told to Tom Christie

This can only be a good thing. When an organization finds itself losing relevance, you turn to exciting innovative methods to stir things up.

The California Heritage Museum did it when they started promoting their specials deals with gopons mobile coupons.

If Machine brings an exciting innovative approach, that can only be a good thing for MOCA.

Hello

The Myth of a Judeo-Christian Tradition

This is an age in which news has been superseded by propaganda, and education by brain-washing and indoctrination. From the advertising used to sell poor quality goods, to the classes in schools designed to make children into conditioned robots of the State, the art of persuasion has displaced the simple virtue of truth.

Since the end of the Second World War we have been bombarded from all sides with references to the Western world's "Judeo-Christian religion," and "our Judeo-Christian heritage." We are told by both church leaders and scholars that our society is based on a supposed "Judeo-Christian tradition".

The notion of "Judeo-Christian religion" is an unquestioned -- almost sacrosanct -- part of both secular and church thinking. American Christian leader Prof. Franklin H. Littel, a vocal supporter of the Zionist state, frankly declared that "to be Christian is to be Jewish," and that consequently it was the duty of a Christian to put support for the "land of Israel" above all else. Pat Boon, the North American singer and evangelist, said there are two kinds of Judaism, one Orthodox and the other Christian.

Yet such a decidedly Christian Zionist outlook is to say the least, wildly simplistic and profoundly ahistorical. As the astute Jewish writer, Joshua J. Adler, points out, "The differences between Christianity and Judaism are much more than merely believing in whether the messiah already appeared or is still expected, as some like to say."

The comments of Jewish author Mr. S. Levin may well explain the Christian's need for the Judeo-Christian myth. Writing in the Israeli journal Biblical Polemics, Levin concludes: "'After all, we worship the same God', the Christian always says to the Jew and the Jew never to the Christian. The Jew knows that he does not worship the Christ-God but the Christian orphan needs to worship the God of Israel and so, his standard gambit rolls easily and thoughtlessly from his lips. It is a strictly unilateral affirmation, limited to making a claim on the God of Israel but never invoked with reference to other gods. A Christian never confronts a Moslem or a Hindu with 'After all, we worship the same God'."

Back in 1992 both Newsweek magazine and the Israeli Jerusalem Post newspaper simultaneously printed extensive articles scrutinising the roots of the sacrosanct Judeo-Christian honeymoon!

The statement heading the Newsweek article read: "Politicians appeal to a Judeo-Christian tradition, but religious scholars say it no longer exists." The Jerusalem Post article's pull quote announced: "Antisemitism is a direct result of the Church's teachings, which Christians perhaps need to re-examine."

"For scholars of American religion," Newsweek states, "the idea of a single Judeo-Christian tradition is a made-in-America myth that many of them no longer regard as valid." It quotes eminent Talmudic scholar Jacob Neusner: "Theologically and historically, there is no such thing as the Judeo-Christian tradition. It's a secular myth favoured by people who are not really believers themselves."

Newsweek cites authorities who indicate that "the idea of a common Judeo-Christian tradition first surfaced at the end of the 19th century but did not gain popular support until the 1940s, as part of an American reaction to Nazism . . ," and concludes that, "Since then, both Jewish and Christian scholars have come to recognize that -- geopolitics apart -- Judaism and Christianity are different, even rival religions."

The Jerusalem Post accused the Christian Church of being responsible for the Holocaust. The French Jewish scholar Jules Isaac was quoted as saying: "Without centuries of Christian catechism, preaching, and vituperation, the Hitlerian teachings, propaganda and vituperation would not have been possible."

"The problem," concludes the Jerusalem Post, "is not, as some assert, that certain Christian leaders deviated from Christian teachings and behaved in an un-Christian manner; it is the teachings themselves that are bent."

Joshua Jehouda, a prominent French Jewish leader, observed in the late 1950s: "The current expression 'Judaeo-Christian' is an error which has altered the course of universal history by the confusion it has sown in men's minds, if by it one is meant to understand the Jewish origin of Christianity . . . If the term 'Judaeo-Christian' does point to a common origin, there is no doubt that it is a most dangerous idea. It is based on a 'contradictio in abjecto' which has set the path of history on the wrong track. It links in one breath two ideas which are completely irreconcileable, it seeks to demonstrate that there is no difference between day and night or hot and cold or black and white, and thus introduces a fatal element of confusion to a basis on which some, nevertheless, are endeavouring to construct a civilisation." (l'Antisemitisme Miroir du Monde pp. 135-6).

The order of evil posits a more complex reality than Christianity, and consequently develops a more independent, naturalistic and chaotic philosophy. The response of Christianity and other forms of control is fear and recrimination. The Altar of Blasphemy reveals the heartbeat of heresy, but it is only your will that can give birth to your own demon.

Terminator franchise is what got me interested in the movies in the first place. The first was a suspenseful cyberpunk thriller, and the second became my favorite movie of all time. The third fell short of intelligence but still solid nonetheless, and the TV series was a good addition to the franchise. Nearing the end of May, the fourth and latest film addition of the beloved sci-fi franchise will open, and viewers are in for a sheer summer spectacle.

Where can I buy a bottle of the luxury vodka iordanov?

Price 3.999,- Dollars.

I found in german:

Iordanov Vodka: Exklusiver Wodka in einer exklusiven Flasche mit Swarovski-Steinen

Frankfurt, im Juni 2009: Wodka-Bars aufgepasst! Iordanov Vodka.

According to Bow Wow's 106 & Park interview, he and Ciara are history and I think who is ciara dating that she may have been the one to end things because he seemed a little bitter about it. I don't know who she is dating now. That photo of her on Nelly's bedside on that Over and Over Again video did cause me to think of the possibility of a relationship between Nelly & Ciara but it was after that that she went public with her relationship with Bow Wow. Yesterday on 106 & Park, Lil Fizz (formerly of B2K) hinted that he would be interested in dating Ciara. Rocsi was sure to call him out on that. Ciara is probably weighing her options and playing it cool right now. She may not be dating anyone.

Female fashion models who work with the designers throughout the season are also in the competition. Each week, as the number of designers dwindle, the number of models are also reduced, with one model remaining at the end. Models are randomly pre-assigned to a designer during the first challenge, and from the second challenge onwards, the designers will have an opportunity to pick the model they wish to work with. This usually happens during the start of every episode save for the first, with the winner of the previous challenge receiving first pick, and the other designers picking models in order through host Klum's random draw of large red shirt buttons with their names stored in a black velvet bag. Though, there are times when only the winning designer will be given the choice to pick with the following choices: either keep his or her previous model, take the losing designer's model Project Runway from the last challenge, or switch models with another competing designer

First of all- I don't smoke. To each his own I say.
I am trying to help someone find a place to buy cigarettes relatively inexpensive. I was asked (repeatdly) to look into this for them so I told them I would check the internet with my favorite website; City Data.

This thread is not to start any smoking debates, so please reply only if you have a thrifty way to purchase cigarettes.

Long story short, these are for a few Senior Citizens on a fixed income. There is no chance in hell that they will quit smoking. I can't force them and I don't want to make them miserable in their last years of life. Over the age of 70 and stubborn as a mules, after many arguments, I say give them what they want & let them be happy. Also, I am not looking to make any profit. I don't need to.

If you are a smoker (NJ) , where do you get your carton of cigarettes?

I buy cheap european cigarettes at http://cigsbuy.com

Feel free to PM me if you have info.
thanks

Hallo,

andere vor Emion Interaktive Medien warnen. Lest Euch die Unterlagen genau durch! Wer unterschreibt
