Sometimes a business is met with a kismet of promotional opportunity: in an paen to the concept of overdoing it, the 99 Cents Only Store in Hollywood went all out today in honor of the numerical wonder that is 09-09-09 and married nine engaged couples for the cost of 99 cents per couple. The first wedding started at 8:09 a.m. and the couples said "I do" in aisle 9.

Kathy Jacobs, a.k.a. Discount Store Diva, created the décor for the wedding ceremony and reception entirely from store inventory, including a gown made entirely from items found at 99 Cents Only Stores. The couples even got a receipt, in case they needed to make a return.

Looks fun and everyone is happy. Not every has the funds for a grand wedding. All the money they saved, they can afford to take a real nice honeymoon and put a down payment on a house.

Lucy says:

First I say are you serious but then Tim above is right. Using all the money saved towards a home is a great idea. They all are very happy and that is all that matters. Congrats..

We covered this for my blog too. The media there was ridiculous, your photographer did a good job of getting shots without people in the way.

Fun fact: two of the people who got married were homeless drug addicts until they helped each other get through it.

Believe me, Americans can do some crazy ass shit that invokes my desire to bust the 4X4 down a dirt road with a six pack jamming Sweet Home Alabama.

But most of the things Americans DO do incidentally, and unfortunately, contributes to the degeneration of society instead.
Like Gay Marriage! *Shivers*

As long as the married couples are happy I think it's okay.

Liberal Arts Undergrad says:

Fascinating, considering the notion that wedding celebrations are a form of consumption that signal the family's social status. Perhaps 'limberjim' and 'Chris H' can't see any symbolic meaning represented?

Does the 99 cent store also sell condoms to consecrate the consumer marriage? Or does the recepit suffice?

Corey says:

I would like to say that the Wedding was wonderful! The 99 Cents only store put a lot of time and effort into this and made 9 couples dreams come true at an affordable price! I know I and my wife were Couple #9 married at approximately 9:09 on 09/09/09 . I would Like to thank the 99 cent Store and all of the people who worked on this to make it a success. Everything was well thought out, well planed and executed perfectly. The amount of money that a business brings in does not make that business a success. Affecting lives in a positive manner that is above and beyond the norm. makes a business a true success. The 99 Cents only Store is a true Success and once again I thank them with all my Heart.

This is so sweet. I love it. People need to get a grip. Weddings are also meant to be memorable. Think about it, when the wedding is lavish no one enjoys it but the guests. Everyone here is happy and smiling. I bet they'll never forget this. What a humble way to begin a great journey together. People waste so much money on weddings it's ridiculous.

This is crazy!!! I guess people have to do what they have to do these days. I think I would just wait to have a wedding verses just doing any crazy thing.

Wow I hope you ladies are very happy.
