Anand Jon Makes Last Stand

"Excuse me, can you please move down and make room?" the young woman asked her neighbors in the packed courtroom. "We have a very famous lawyer here." By that she meant Gloria Allred, who had just arrived at 9 a.m., the time scheduled for Superior Court Judge David Wesley to either sentence celebrity fashion designer Anand Jon in Department 102, or grant him a new trial. Jon, whose full name is Anand Jon Alexander, was convicted last November of 16 counts of sexual assault committed against a group of young or under-aged women who had been drawn to him by the promise of advancement in the fashion world or for simple companionship. Since July Jon has been representing himself as his own attorney.

Judge Wesley opened court at 9:10 a.m. He is now dealing with Jon's motion for a new trial based on what he claims is new evidence, including juror misconduct and prosecutorial misconduct. Apparently Jon filed some papers in support of the motion earlier this morning. There's now some delaying as Jon's assistant, his brother-in-law Richard Bernard Zera, collates some papers and readies a projection-screen display.

9:17 a.m.: Jon asks Wesley if the judge will grant him a new trial if Jon can prove he received an unfair trial. Wesley says, "Let's see what your evidence proves."

Jon now suggests he is a victim of racial prejudice. "In March, 2007," he says of his Beverly Hills arrest, "I found out what it means to be brown in the USA. I was called a brown sand nigger." Jon calls the presentation he is about to make his last stand.

Jon is now claiming that he did not get a fair and impartial jury because Juror No. 12, Alvin Dymally, was later exposed as a rogue juror who contacted Jon's sister, Sanjana, during and after the trial. Nor, Jon says, did he receive a fair trial  or "to an effective and even loyal counsel." (He's claiming that Elizabeth Roos, the daughter of lawyer Donald Marks, one of Jon's former attorney who  assisted Marks and his colleagues during the trial, took a job with the D.A.'s office during the trial.)

Jon claims he has evidence, via rogue Juror No. 12's neighbor, that Dymally was set on convicting Jon during the trial, before juror deliberations began.

More to follow soon.

Yeah, thanks for the update, although I'm having spasms of laughter hearing how lacking in common sense Jon's arguments are. Motion denied! See ya in 16 years, clown.

As a brown South Asian man living in the US for more than two decades, I have never been called a 'brown sand nigger.' Sand nigger, yes, but never a brown sand nigger. A sand nigger sorta implies brownness (or Arabness), which to most ignorant Americans are the same. And only ignorant Americans use such a term (I was called it twice in a biker bar in the midwest, don't ask why I went twice!!)

I don't buy Anand Jon's claims one bit, sorry. He's making it up, and trying to play the race card since he has nothing else substantial left to try. And his sister has been playing the Gandhi card in India, suggesting she will go on a hunger strike unless the Indian government acts You know what? She won't do it, cuz she will end up dying from starvation cuz the Indian government will not intervene in this case.

So much for the high IQ defense some people were promising.

Justice is SERVED.
I had the unfortunate unpleasure of meeting Anand Jon in a bar/club 4 years ago. He bought me a few drinks and tried to take me by the hand to the back of the club. Thank God, one of my sober girlfriends intervened.

Lori says:

How does he think he convince everyone this is about racism?? Grow up and open your eyes, people. DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR HIM! No one called him a "brown sand nigger" and to say that, that is absurd! Who, Anand? Who called you this terrible name?

Your living in illusions! I should post up all the aggravations he put me through. I just read them and he did cause so much emotional trauma to me. I wish I was there so that I can make my statement to him.

Is there some sort of live stream we can hear? I wonder why court tv doesnt have this up. I would love to hear what he has to say in his defense.

Lani says:

Oh my goodness... sentence him to life already. This has been going on for too long. This guy is a delusional sociopath, I hope the judge doesn't believe the crap he came up with now only to postpone once again. This man should never be let out of prison again!

To Lori Above:

I think Anand Jon is guilty but I also think that you are not the Lori that has been talked about in the media that suffered from Anand Jon's abuses.

If you were, you would be in the courtroom today or scheduled to be sometime this week since many of his victims have been invited to make a statement prior to his sentencing.

Did you know that?

Why make up such a preposterous false persona? If you have something to say, go ahead and say it but why the drama of impersonating someone who was actually very damaged by Anand Jon's actions?

I would like to see some common sense prevail around here, but its the internet, so I am dreaming.......

Fashion designer asks LA judge for new trial

By GREG RISLING (AP) – 28 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — A fashion designer convicted of sexually assaulting aspiring models has asked a judge for a new trial, citing alleged juror and prosecutorial misconduct.

Anand Jon Alexander, awaiting sentencing, made an eloquent and impassioned plea Monday for a new trial. The 35-year-old, who is representing himself, says the jury that convicted him in November of 14 counts was not fair or impartial.

Goingto NY says:

"LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander will learn what his sentence will be for sexually assaulting aspiring models he lured to Los Angeles, only to be turned around and sent to New York where he faces similar charges.

He is under indictment in New York on similar charges involving nine women."

After NY, TEXAS is waiting for Jon Alex, that should be fun.

The rest of his life in the Cal. prison system says:

FYI - It IS "the Lori" "that has been talked about in the media that suffered from Anand Jon's abuses." In L.A., Anand was ONLY prosecuted for abusing women 21 and younger; hence only they can make a "victim's impact statement" today. Lori lives on the east coast. She will get to testify against him when he goes on trial in N.Y.

- supporter of all of Anand's victims

Lori says:

Yes this is me. I am not using a fake name because honestly I do not care too. I know he is guilty and I too support all of the victims. I think he realizes he is done for...otherwise, where? Where is the evidence depicting his so called innocense? there is none! he keeps focusing on the rogue juror, who was only an attempt to be used for a retrial. anand is done. he still has new york and texas!

Good for you Lori.
I am also Indian. His racism charge is false. He is clutching at straws. My community is against rape of minors and women. We deplore this behavior. It annoys us that he portrays the whole community supporting him. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I still have yet to read any details of his "rapes" in the media. Since when is it automatically rape when a woman gets drunk, spreads her legs, then feels shameful afterward?
