Julien's Auctions

​There are no fewer than two Hollywood memorabilia auctions taking place this week. Calabasas' Profiles in History is running one of its periodic prop-and-costume bidding wars ("Ever dream of getting into Megan Fox's shorts?" asks today's L.A. Daily News. "It'll only cost you about $3,000"), while this weekend the Hollywood Studio Collection holds forth with a wardrobe auction at the Hollywood Roosevelt. (A press release promises chances to buy "the dress shirt worn by Tom Cruise in the infamous scene in Risky Business or the sneakers Kevin Bacon debuted in Footloose.") Portions of Profiles in History's auction will go to the new Stan Winston Visual Effects Scholarship at USC, while a portion of the Hollywood Studio Collection bidding will go to Childhelp.

There'll be a much smaller but no less interesting third auction the following weekend, to be held at the Beverly Hills Hilton by Julien's Auctions. The more than 500 personal items will represent a house-cleaning by Barbra Streisand of her pads in New York, Beverly Hills and Malibu. There'll be  art work, jewelry, pieces of furniture and -- oh yes, count on it -- costumes worn in films ranging from The Way We Were to Meet the Fockers. One of the selling points is that even the budget-conscious will be welcome, with some tschotskes hovering at the $100 level. All proceeds from the Julien's auction will go to the Streisand Foundation, which provides grants to environmental and social justice causes.
