Rocky Delgadillo Dreams of Being California Attorney General?

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo got slammed by voters in his last run for California Attorney General, losing to the "old man," as twenty-somethings call Attorney General Jerry Brown. Now, City News Service says he is thinking of trying again.

Brown, of course, was a comeback king who pulled the crappy city of Oakland together (somewhat) as mayor, living in that cool loft built in the former hardware department of an old Sears store with his wife Anne Gust, and cracking down on Oakland's crime and street filth.

Delgadillo's legacy is kind of different. His team of L.A. city attorneys created the disastrous billboard settlement, which caved in, entirely, to the unwanted digital billboard industry -- and we still do not know why Delgadillo cut that strange backroom deal.

His team also cooked up the bizarre loophole that allowed an explosion in medical marijuana storefronts near L.A. schools, parks and homes. No other California city made such a huge error in its medical marijuana codes. (In both of these blunders, neither the Los Angeles City Council or Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa understood what they were approving.) Then there were the numerous ethics problems.

And recently there was Rocky's weird granting of lifetime "tenure" jobs to his aides, which will now cost taxpayers a fortune to "work around" so that incoming City Attorney Carmen Trutanich can hire his own staff and not get stuck with Rocky's staff. It makes you wonder about newly elected 5th District Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz and his judgement, that he snapped up Rocky's chief of staff Richard Llewellyn, who was intimately involved in Rocky's messes.

What will Rocky's campaign ads look like? Suggestions?

It was laughable how the council today all told him what a great guy he was and how much they loved him, just in case he actually wins. Even that bald vulgar phony Zine who openly hates Rocky. Garcetti said he was moved to pieces when Rocky demolished that drug house in Glassell Park a few months ago, one Photo Op Hound pol to another. Everyone talked about how good looking and smart he was, forgetting the doctored resume.

And what about when he decided to make an example of Paris Hilton, for doing exactly what his own wife did but was never prosecuted for because "she forgot," and then it turned out Paris got more time than an average non-celebrity. (She was a ping-pong ball between two OTHER doltish attention and celebrity whores: Rocky and Baca, who this week announced that he'd stop processing all DNA evidence kits in an attempt to get more money after blowing his $2 Billion budget.)

He did do one thing right, the neighborhood prosecutor program, but only in the last couple of years after 6 years of disaster with billboard companies who bought his election, the marijuana dispensary mess, not to mention his personal embarrassments on issues where he was chief law enforcer. He was even named in the Top Ten Worst Lawyers in the Country a couple years ago.

The only thing going for Rocky is his other major Democratic opposition so far: Kamala Harris, San Francisco's DA, who was responsible for the illegal felons work program written up in the Times already this week and other programs helping illegal felon juveniles escape the law. To be fair she was part of the San Francisco tradition and no doubt this was Gavin Newsom's idea -- he just hired notoriously pro-illegal immigrant Gascon from Arizona (the opposite of Joe Arpaio, the guy who makes illegal prisoners eat balogna in outdoor tents). Both Harris and Newsom will go down once this issue gets statewise attention like it's already starting to. Rocky seems like a bumbling C-student compared to what rightwing talk radio is already calling "the felon" Harris. Her ace in the hole is being a friend of Obama, who may stump for her, but with his healthcare plan and budget disapproval, may make her look like more of an ethnic liberal. She and Rocky will bloody each other so that Brown, the "old guy" will win the nomination again.

This creates a unique opportunity for the Republicans, but Meg Whitman, Carli Fiorina and Campbell are all uninspiring teflon types. It's wide open and should prove bloody as this one turns into a major contact sport.

I sort of mixed together the Governor and Attorney General races but to clarify Harris and Rocky will box each other up but I don't think either can win, I don't know yet who's the likeliest candidate, someone not officially entered probably. Brown will beat Newsom because like Harris he's too San Francisco for CA. If Feinstein enters the race they're both cooked but why would she, she's got a powerful job in DC and frankly, anyone who takes on the Governor job now is going on a kamikaze mission.

Rocky saying to someone earlier that no one outside L A is no remembers his scandals just means he thinks that if you mess up you just take the Rockard show to a bigger stage, but if anyone is a case where "experience" is a bad thing it's him.

Sherry says:

Obviously, no one is perfect, but honestly, Rocky Delgadillo is my hero. He has his failings, but I have never, in my 42 years in L.A., seen any one person attack the gang culture and lifestyle that has developed here harder than Delgadillo. I grew up in Cypress Park. It is an area hard hit by gangs and long overlooked by law enforcement. My Glassell Park duplex was 3 blocked from the Northeast division of LAPD. 3 blocks! Took them 45 minutes to respond to the drive-by in front of my duplex. This was 15 years ago. This is right next door to Drew St. where Delgadillo shut down one of the Aves lead homes.

Talk shit all you want. My home town is safer now than it has ever been and I attribute it all to Rocky Delgadillo.

You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn't changed.
"The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity," Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don't cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.
