Villaraigosa Gets Cheech Marin Hitched

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has long been known to run with the glamour crowd in Los Angeles, and this past Sunday was no different.

According to news reports, Villaraigosa officiated the marriage of comedian Cheech Marin and classical pianist Natasha Rubin yesterday. The wedding was reportedly a sunset ceremony that took place at Marin's Malibu home.

The mayor rubbed elbows with actor Don Johnson, newscaster Geraldo Rivera, and director Robert Rodriguez, according to People.com. It's the kind of thing that drives former L.A. Daily News editor Ron Kaye crazy, who again recently took the mayor to task for his good times lifestyle.

The gig turned out to be a public relations boon for Villaraigosa, who was mentioned in blogs and newspapers across the country for helping Marin and Rubin to get hitched.

The day in Malibu must have also come as a relief for the mayor after he has faced a multitude of questions about the economic health of the city of Los Angeles and now the departure of his number one political asset, LAPD chief Bill Bratton.

Robert says:

Tony could not stay away from any publicity-producing event to save his life. Until he puts his narcissistic-propelled motivations under control, his media-whore image will continue to flourish.

With an apparent burst of free time coming after his swearing in for a second term, his long "vacations" were evidence of the Mayor's disinterest in really doing things "for the city" above all else, and I don't say he should be some "workaholic" Mayor- clearly he's far from that- but maybe staying in the city for a chance to maybe do things of a postive nature, like even learning the facts behind the issues.

We already know he manipulates thngs to get desired results from a political perspective. But to the rest of us it's not very helpful.Tony could do so much (and there's lots of progress to be shown when you start from zero). He could learn about the pensions and the likelyhood of financial doom in store if left alone; he could get to work to see that the early retirement deal will have some bad actual impact when the rest of the dominoes tip over, unless he corrects things.

It's all material he cares nothing about. He lives for the present and the fame and glory, whether it's real or just in his own mind, and all the future burdens his plans are creating don't matter to him. He will be out of office and somewhere else when it all blows up.

But in that respect, he no different than the other politicians from city hall to the Sacramento offices when it comes to locally based politics. Being in the spotlight is what he lives for- too bad he has no vision and only "dreams."
