Hawaiian born, LA based artist and illustrator Ekundayo had a small, but very cool showing at Suru on Saturday the 24th of May.
The store had previously featured his artwork both inside and out, so it's a natural place to hold the opening. He re-painted the outside chunk of wall with this excellent blue and purple figure.

Inside, a good dozen or so pieces hang on the wall, as well as Ekundayo-designed Suru T-shirts.

Saw a couple of other cool things on Melrose, like this gate-graffiti

Carefully spaced stickers....

Art in front of a closed gallery:

And some cool, huge MBW pieces. Check back for those, but here's a taste:

These pictures are from late '07, and never got posted. The plan was to go back at another time, and get over the fences to get more pictures.

Unfortunately, not long after I took these, the whole area got blasted.

Auger and some others have since put up some stuff in this yard, but the huge red and black Seventh Letter logo hasn't been replaced.

So here's what it looked like in November. Will post more recent shots of the wall over the weekend.

More photos after the jump.

On the south side of Pico near Harvard is this nice two artist piece on the side of a Korean food store.

Revok. I'm not sure of the age of the wall. It looks recent but there are already some ugly tags marring it along the bottom.

Retna.

Not sure who did the Frida art. Any guesses?

On a low wall near an empty lot on Franklin near Cahuenga in Hollywood there's a fast and mean REVOK / AUGER tag.

Down a little driveway alley next to Brooklyn Projects in Echo Park is an excellent collaborative piece between OBEY and SABER. Enjoy:

Photo by Shelley Leopold. Spotted on LaBrea over the weekend - Iron Man posters retooled. If there was any pro-Hillary or McCain street art we'd post that too, but darn if we haven't seen any.

While we're at it, here's the big Shepard Fairey Hope piece that was on the wall of his gallery and studio in Echo Park on Sunset. It's since been replaced with the Blek Le Rat poster - though that too might be gone by now.

That windowless brick of a Sears store may be closed, and a lot of the old auto repair spots are being torn down for who knows what, but there's some cool graffiti going up within the fences.

The sun was already going down fast by the time I noticed this gem on retaining walls going up a hill in Echo Park.

I took some shots anyway and decided to post them since I didn't know when I'd be coming back this way again soon. So, I'm sorry about the darkness and quality.

The new commute is making it much tougher to try to search out walls like this around town.

Too dark. Some more after the jump of some of the other taggers in that area. All photos by Mark Mauer.
