Canstruction LA: A Food Donation Program Andy Warhol Would Have Loved

Here's a food show that would have made Andy Warhol happy. Instead of just donating your cans of soup to the foodbank, let local architects and engineers create art from them, THEN donate them. For the fourth annual Canstruction LA, a design/build competion, teams of local architects create structures from cans of food. After the competition--judges name Best Meal, Best Use of Labels, etc.--and a public exhibit, the cans are donated to the LA Regional Foodbank. Among the judges this year? John Sedlar of downtown's Rivera. Maybe somebody will build a tequila chair out of cans of hominy.

Canstruction LA will be held at 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, directly across the street from LACMA (inspiration, perhaps). The exhibit will run from October 30 - November 15. Hours: Monday-Sunday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
