Perhaps due to restaurant week, which runs until Friday, October 16, the benefit blitz has slowed, leaving you wondering how best to spend your money this weekend. That is what you're wondering, right? Of course, you could extend your dollars by taking advantage of the bargain eating at any of restaurants participating in Dine LA, or, you could take a cooking class from the pros. Because, as the saying goes, give a man a mojito, he'll drink for a day, but teach a man to make a mojito and he'll drink for a lifetime. (Paraphrased.)

Immediately following both lunch and dinner offerings at Border Grill, Ciudad, and Susan Feniger's Street to DineLA, Feniger and partner Mary Sue Milliken will teach a Caribbean-themed cooking class with a "Mojito Madness" sub-theme at Ciudad. On Saturday, October 17, the Too Hot Tamales will demonstrate Carribean shrimp cakes with mango chile lime sauce, rum braised beef, and spiced pineapple upside-down cake with dulce de leche whipped cream for dessert. And! Blood orange mojitos, which we suspect are the secret to their seemingly limitless energy. (The class costs $75 per person, and comes with a multi-course lunch and a recipe booklet. Call to reserve a spot.)

Ciudad: 445 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles; (213) 486-5171.
