Fernando Botero Exhibit At The Bowers Museum: Food Art In Actual Sizes
Even if you're the sort of person who follows Top Chef instead of Project Runway, it's difficult sometimes not to feel a bit guilty as you watch Padma in her cocktail dresses and halter tops while you sit on the couch eating actual food. (Of course this may change soon, if yesterday's Twitter reports of Lakshmi's pregnancy are accurate.) For a bit of recalibration, you may want to check out the Fernando Botero exhibit, now on display at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. Botero, known for his portraits of rather corpulent people, also painted still lifes of food, which, unsurprisingly, are also a little larger than how we ordinarily see them portrayed. Like, bigger than that Twitpic of some amuse-bouche you took last night.
The Baroque World of Fernando Botero is the first major U.S. retrospective presented in more than 30 years by the Colombian artist. The exhibition, which runs until December 6th, features many works from his private collection, including 100 paintings, sculptures, and drawings, many which have never before been seen in public.
