Inch By Inch: Gathering of Community Gardens at Farmlab This Weekend

If you find yourself considering the current state of your lawn, or questioning how best to garden during a drought, it might be a good idea to head over to the Gathering of Community Gardens conference in downtown LA for some fresh ideas on how to nurture a sustainable garden in the city of Los Angeles.

Hosted by the LA Community Garden Council this weekend, the verdant affair begins at 8am on Saturday at Farmlab in downtown, for a full day of workshops, lectures, and networking for gardeners (aspiring and experienced). The LA County Master Gardeners (LA Common Ground) and other experts will lead discussions on beekeeping, vegetable gardening, composting and native plants. Three workshops will be offered in Spanish.

The conference is free, although a $10 donation is requested and, in keeping with the nature of the conference, the Council requests that all participants bring their own plate, cup and utensils for a lunch from Mirabelle, Square One, and Larchmont Grill (three restaurants that grow their own organic food in community gardens).

On Sunday, meet back at Farmlab by 8 a.m. sharp for a tour of community gardens in downtown LA, East LA, Elysian Park and Hollywood. All the Council vans are booked up already, but feel free to organize a carpool and follow in your own vehicle. Go Blue Green!
