In Mendocino, outdoor farmers are busy harvesting the last marijuana crop of the season, and in Los Angeles, the folks at Intelligentsia Venice are relishing in their portion of the Geisha varietal coffee crop from Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama, where a very limited amount is auctioned off once a year.

Geoff Watts, director of coffee and green coffee purchaser for Chicago's Intelligentsia Roasting Works, who spends a majority of the year on the road buying coffee, participates in the live action every year. The coffee sells for $100 a pound at Intelligentsia, but this afternoon you'll have the chance to taste it for free at the Venice and Silver Lake stores, where baristas will be educating curious drinkers and serving up samples of this coveted coffee, described by Watts as having "an Ethiopian-like profile, but (it's) handled, processed, and picked by a farmer in Panama with all the resources."

Silver Lake: Starting at 1 p.m. in the "back bar."

Intelligentsia Venice: From 4 p.m. -- 6 p.m. in the "slow bar."
