Now Open: Bricks and Scones (and Coffee and Tea) on Larchmont

Categories: New Restaurants

Bricks and Scones is the perfect name for Larchmont's newest café. Not because it's housed in a brick building and serves scones--though I suppose it's fitting for that reason too--but because this evocation of a schoolyard rhyme captures the lovable quality of the place. The red brick walls are decorated with expertly-framed photographs of various other brick walls, and baked goods are made with love by café owner Jinah Kim's mother, who also owns the building.

When asked what prompted her to open the café, Kim says simply, "We just had the space." Only two years out of Tufts University, Kim skips the pretense of a grand café lunch menu and instead offers what she knows: tasty and inexpensive sandwiches, most with cheese because it makes everything better, good coffee (it's Intelligentsia) and tea.

Comfortable dark brown leather couches and wood tables give the dining room a welcoming warmth. There's free WiFi and a library based on a book-swap system. The space is perfect for studying, though technically the upstairs, called "the study," has a few small tables with straight-backed chairs and a no-talking policy for that purpose.
