2 Turtle Doves: The Bruery's Second Release in "Twelve Beers of Christmas" Series

Categories: Beer

It's all about flushed faces and holiday releases this time of year at The Bruery. As last year's release was dubbed Partridge in a Pear Tree, this year's Twelve Days ale has been christened -- surprise, surprise -- 2 Turtle Doves. The saccharine allusions get better, as even the flavor profile of the beers reflect the theme. Last year's Partridge in a Pear Tree was a fruity Belgium-style ale; 2 Turtle Doves was brewed with cocoa nibs, toasted pecans and caramelized sugar in homage to the candy by the same name.

Like all of the Bruery's full-bodied, unfiltered ales, these beers can be sipped now but are ideal for cellaring. Scour Ebay for bottles of Partridge in a Pear Tree (it is no longer available for purchase), and if you're lucky, you can still act like an overtly sentimental sap and host a Twelve Days party in 2019 with every vintage -- although no word yet from owner-brewer Patrick Rue on what's in store flavor-wise in 2015 with 8 Maids a Milking. Rest assured, Rue has plenty of time to brush up on his teat-to-bucket technique.

2 Turtle Doves: Tap tastings and 750 ml bottles ($11) are available at The Bruery Tasting Room, 715 Dunn Way, Placentia (open Friday and weekends only) and well-stocked local liquor stores.
