Bombay Palace Celebrates a Quarter Century (With Discounts)

Restaurants are closing left and right, but some have endured for decades. What is their secret? "Passion for what you do, pride in what you serve and sincere service to patrons always pays off," says Deep Sethi, owner of Bombay Palace, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. "Of course, consistency in our food and service has also helped a great deal." Two of the original chefs, brothers Harnam Singh and Surjit Singh, are still on hand. Tandoori chef Jassi Singh is a relative newcomer. He's only been there 10 years.

Such longevity deserves a celebration, and Bombay Palace customers will share in the festivities. Starting February 1st (this Monday) and continuing for the rest of the year, diners will get special discounts on the restaurant's classic Indian food.

The Palace Feast, a tasting dinner, will drop in price from $60 to $50 -- and that's for two people. The menu includes vegetable samosas, tandoori chicken, gilafi seekh kebab, a jumbo tandoori prawn, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower), rice pilau, garlic naan and pista kulfi (pistachio ice cream). The lunch buffet will drop to $25 for two. It consists of an appetizer, salad bar, entrees such as tandoori chicken and chicken curry, three vegetables, rice, naan, dessert and a beverage.

No alcoholic drinks are included in the anniversary discounts. You're on your own if you want a Palace Tini (vodka with mint and lime), a mango mojito (mango rum, mint, lime and soda) or a glass of wine. If you opt for wine, the nice thing to do would be to choose a sparkler such as Prosecco to toast the occasion.
