The Great Wall of Chocolate: Chinese Chocolatiers Build A Replica of the Great Wall Out of Chocolate

The Great Wall of China was built in the 3rd century B.C. as a defense against invasion. Recently Beijing confectioners build another great wall, this time entirely out of chocolate. What this is a defense against is not clear. Maybe too much tofu, as the wall was built in an effort, according to Reuters, to get the Chinese populace to eat more chocolate. The edible replica wall was constructed from 80 tons of chocolate, spans 10 meters--rather than the 4,000 plus miles of the actual wall--and includes 'terra cotta' chocolate warriors (standing at attention on a layer of chocolate flakes). Built from solid dark chocolate bricks and mortared together with white chocolate, the wall is part of the World Chocolate Wonderland exhibition and trade show that opens this month in Beijing. The show's general manager, Tina Zheng, said that in China, "chocolate is a specialty or something given to children, in general, it is not widely known." Maybe the next step is to build a chocolate wall that you can see from outer space.
