L.A. Times Food Section Moves To Thursdays

Starting February 4th, The Los Angeles Times Food section will be published on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays. Food section editor Russ Parsons says that the move, which he announced yesterday, is the result of "losing some press capacity." The Times is shutting down their Orange County printing operations. Today's Times runs a story about the changes, which also describes the new section, called LATExtra, created to accommodate the late news that now won't make the earlier section deadlines.

Parsons says that the move doesn't really mean anything for the section. "When I started, when Ruth Reichl was publishing, it was on Thursdays. We switched because of advertising." In fact Parsons says the move is a good thing. "It's better for the way people cook now," as the publication will be closer to weekend cooking. This will, however, recalibrate our favorite game of reading the food sections of The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times simultaneously, but hey, now you can play that game with the LAT and the print edition of this paper. "We're just along for the ride," says Parsons. Aren't we all.
