No toys for you

Children are easy to bribe, and parents have been using that technique since the beginning of human existence to promote good behavior. But while it's one thing to bribe your own children, it's a different story to bribe somebody else's. That seemed to be the sentiment in Santa Clara County on Tuesday, where county officials voted 3-2 in favor of banning toys in unhealthy fast food kids meals.

"This ordinance prevents restaurants from preying on children's' love of toys," said supervisor Ken Yeager. Opposition to the ordinance came with the argument that parents should be able to take care of their own children, and not rely on the work of government.

The ordinance will take hold in 90 days, with the goal to give fast food restaurants ample time to come up with a healthier kids meal. If the meals meet these health and nutrition standards, they will again be allowed to include toys.
