Top 10 Cocktails Inspired by Los Angeles + A Mulholland Drive Cocktail Recipe

• Dunno if it's still there, but at The Water Grill, They have a cocktail called L.A River. Super dirty vodka martini, with jalapeno stuffed olive and smoked salt rim. I was hoping for a lil toy tire or a teeny plastic bag but no... good martini though if you like it dirty!

• These are all very nice...but if you ever actually go to a bar that is not scenester, hipster, or bougeouis you would find dozens of people ordering L.A. Water. It's a really strong cocktail and I've heard it ordered so many times. It may not be chic and have elderflower, bitters, or any special alcohols, but L.A. party people order it anyway.

• Stan, Like I said, although, I guess it's not too clear, those cities get a cocktail named after them. Didn't say the Moscow Mule was from Moscow. And, yes, there IS a Los Angeles cocktail but thought it would be fun to see what other cocktails out there are inspired by our city.

• Agreed, fantastic idea for a roundup! Also agreed, blech to the Absolut LA. I'm on Mulholland all the time, that namesake cocktail looks nice. Even though it's called the Moscow Mule, there's some Hollywood in its history. Mr. Gold calls it "L.A.'s most emblematic cocktail."

• love love love this idea for the roundup, and VERY glad none of the recipes makes use of that Absolut LA... blechhh. Though as I noted before, if anyone can make a drink called "smog and broken dreams" using that vodka, I'd be willing to try for the corny factor! I, too, like the Sunrise -- but maybe we should make it a Tequila Sunset (replace cassis & grenadine w blackberry brandy) since we are on the West Coast? But alas, that name is not very evocative of L.A. -- perhaps rebrand it as a glitzier Hollywood Sunset w a splash of sparkly?
