Fishery Disaster Declared for 3 Gulf Coast States

On Monday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke declared a fishery disaster for three states, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, along the Gulf of Mexico. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody, except maybe BP. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has closed nearly 20 percent of the federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico to commercial and recreational fishing; the closed area totals 48,005 square miles.
Meanwhile, the massive oil spill, the result of an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform on April 20 which killed 11 workers, continues to expand as BP searches for a solution.
