While L.A. City Council continues to look for a solution to their food truck regulation problems, the city of Santa Monica is trying out an idea of its own. Late last week, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported that the city has approved a permit allowing private business owners to rent out their parking lots to food trucks. This idea was attempted without the proper permits back in January, but lasted just one day before being shut down.

These "temporary use permits" can now be applied for, and will last up to three months before they are reviewed for possible renewal. Permit applications cost $953.72. The city will supposedly revisit the idea as a whole in four months, at which point they can decide whether or not to make it permanent.
