The Digs: The six-month-old craft beer bar, brought to you by the beer geeks behind Glassell Park's Verdugo Bar, is located on traffic-prone Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Formerly the home of 24K Lounge, the once-extravagant space is now a chill place where drinkers can bond with their doppelbock. Loners can grab a seat at the bar, while groups of friends may opt for the loungey seating area with couches, high tables with bench seating along the wall or on the outdoor patio. Drinkers who like to multi-task can take in sporting events or movies, like Three Amigos or Red Sonja, on the two TVs hovering over the bar or play shuffleboard in the game area. If you don't feel like asking for a menu of what they have on their constantly rotating 26 taps, just look for the mounted white goat head. It oversees the many chalk scribblings of what is currently "on deck."

​The Verdict: This is a beer drinker's happy hour. You may not find cheap eats or cocktails here but every week a new Pilsner, nut brown, Witbier and American pale ale -- all regularly $6 each -- are chosen by co-owner and L.A.'s first Certified Cicerone, Ryan Sweeney, for the drink specials. And cocktail drinkers needn't feel left out as this is a full bar with Jack and Smirnoff as the well whiskey and vodka. Hungry folks need to only ask for a takeout menu as they can have their food delivered to the bar or pick it up themselves and bring back. Baby Blues BBQ is only a couple doors down, by the way. The bartenders only ask that you don't eat at the bar, but instead at the many other seating options.

The Surly Goat may not offer much in the form of drink deals, or food for that matter, but for serious beer drinkers it's one of only a few beer-focused happy hours in L.A. And it definitely deserves a gold star for happening every day past the usual 7 p.m. happy hour end time.
