If you've always wanted to be a part of the farmers market, here's your chance. Hang out with farmers, learn about where your food comes from, shop early for your Meyer lemons and fresh garbanzos and tuber roses while the marine layer rolls in off the nearby Pacific, all while you do a little good work. The four Santa Monica farmers markets need reliable volunteers who can make a regular commitment to a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly three- to four-hour shift. You'll help set up the booth, answer customer questions, distribute food stamps and generally represent the market. Oh, and you might have some fun too. Interested? Turn the page for more details.

And no, it won't always be raining, as it was today at the Wednesday market, so no REI gear required (although the store is conveniently located right up the street.) But hey, even if you get caught in a downpour, there's always Röckenwagner Bakery, where you will perhaps find, as we did today, a table of rain-soaked chefs -- with a not insignificant handful of Michelin stars between them -- hanging out and drinking coffee. "It's a business development meeting," said Providence's Michael Cimarusti, much to the collective amusement of Josiah Citrin (Mélisse), Alain Giraud (formerly of Anisette; stay tuned), Donato Poto (Providence) and Kazuto Matsusaka (Beacon).
