Not coming to a school near you--well, not into a school near you.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is so poor it is entertaining the notion of accepting corporate sponsors on school campuses. There's no chance of the Malboro Man's visage being emblazoned on a soccer field or Smirnoff ads blanketing cafeteria walls, but the board will decide tomorrow, Tuesday, December 14th, if an estimated extra $18 million a year to benefit athletic programs and extracurricular activities marooned by the ongoing onslaught of wicked budget cuts is worth lifting the current ban.

According to a Mercury News (via the AP) piece, district officials claim only "acceptable partnerships" would be permitted. Happily, fast food and cola companies are reportedly not part of that conversation. With vending machines on campuses and dollar menu deals and big gulps waiting outside the doors, they don't have to be.
