Metrodome Food Donated to Food Bank: A Little Snowfall Windfall

Categories: Food News

Ah, we knew if we waited long enough, we'd find a reason to write about the Metrodome collapse on a food blog. Thanks to Aramark, the food services giant, which agreed to donate all the food prepared for last Sunday's (postponed, moved) game between the Vikings and the Giants to a local food pantry. (Kind of like the metaphorical reverse of the Superdome during Katrina.)

The Metrodome collapsed over the weekend, following a massive blizzard in the upper Midwest which dropped about 17 inches of snow on the inflatable roof. Yes, an inflatable roof, which has collapsed three previous times since it was first inflated in 1981. As for why an inflatable roof was considered a good idea in the first place, well, you'd have to check out Caltech's NFL blog. Assuming they had one. Assuming we had an NFL team. Aramark general manager Corey Hedrick said that giving away the food, to Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Second Harvest Heartland, was an "easy decision." One hopes.
