Project Fishmap, Monterey Bay Aquarium's Newest App: Almost as Much Fun as Angry Birds
Here's something new to add to your phone if you're a seafood lover. No, not a bluefin tuna version of Angry Birds, although that would be kind of fun. Slightly more useful is Project FishMap, a new feature of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch app, which lets you tag any of more than one million restaurants and markets across the United States when you find ocean-friendly seafood. This way other app users can learn where the rest of us have found sustainable seafood. 
Nearly one million locations are available for app users to update with ocean-friendly seafood, which you've found either shopping or dining. And you can add new locations if they're not in the database. Other new features include: enhanced search functionality to find your favorite seafood; additional information regarding popular market names for seafood items; the conservation status of each species; and an option to view the "SuperGreen" list. Says Sheila Bowman, Seafood Watch senior outreach manager, "It's a community effort, and we can't do it without you. Please use your Seafood Watch app to report where you find sustainable seafood."
The app can be downloaded via iTunes for free; an Android version of the app will be released in 2011. As for any Seafood Watch games, we can only ask.
