A non-profit for at-risk youths, Homeboy Industries, has been a successful endeavor in many ways for founder Father Gregory Boyle. But is it financially profitable? Not quite. After a difficult year for the 19-year-old organization, Boyle decided it was time to launch a food product that could be mass distributed and create additional revenue for the company. Perhaps Homeboy chips and salsa will do the trick. Sold in Ralphs markets throughout L.A. and Southern California, "the launch of the salsa is part of the turnaround effort to make Homeboy Industries financially sustainable," says a company press release.

And beginning tomorrow, January 25, a Homeboy food truck will be rolling through the streets of L.A., giving out free chips and salsa over a two-week span. They can be tracked down through their Twitter handle @HomeboyInd.

All proceeds will benefit Homeboy programs and Ralphs is donating an additional $50,000 to the organization. Recipes for the salsa, including flavors such as morita, mango, salsa verde, pico de gallo, and mole were created by chef Pati Zarate of Homegirl Café.

Sorry, but this is very sad.  In a United States where unemployment is at over 9 percent and some states are in double figures, it is appalling that people who were gang members or inmates have the ability to have this support.  Where is the support for the people who did not commit crimes.  Not all poor people are "homeboys", and therefore, have mentored protection.  Why not look out for the people who have not stripped America of it's positive image first within the job market before we look out for those people who, good, bad or indifferent still chose to commit a crime while knowing there are consequences.  "Homeboy" and other equivalent industries foster a growing American outlook that people are better if they do not follow rules.  You have to be kidding me.

Why don"t you jump in A jar of HomeBoys Salsa and free yourself? Everyone who want's a second chance to prove themselves deserves it! Would you want this chance if it was for you, or a person that you love and care for? Then you want to talk about" jobs for people who commit no crimes" well you missed the whole purpose of the establisment with your judgmental mind, because a lot of times, even good people do things that get them in trouble doing things to survive. If you truely think these employees who are trying to make a restitution by their hard is not a postive image to this countryin which you claim" has a of a positive image"  then you need to take a good look at yourself to see if "you are kidding" yourself??? May the Good Lord forgive and restore these young and old people who are not all" Gange Members" with His Support!!" Sorry Boo, but its a new day- called forgivness and restoration. Are you in???

Great idea for Homeboy Industries, hopefully this will certainly revitalize the difficulties of the past. Bravo!
