Tengu in Westwood Closed For Revamp; Panini Cafe Opening Next Door

A group of University students, backpacks in tow, arrived at a dim Tengu restaurant on Lindbrook Avenue during happy hour time on Tuesday. "Closed?" someone in the group asked. The Japanese restaurant, across the street from Palomino, posted a sign on its door apologizing to customers, saying they will be closed for a remodel until February 1st.

In a letter to patrons, the management writes:

After 11 fantastic years in westwood village, tengu will be closed until february 1 and reopen with a new name, new look, and updated menu featuring our craft cocktails, famous sushi and asian cuisine. we thank you for your loyal patronage, and look forward to welcoming you back in february.

Though the website for Tengu is under construction, the note advises patrons to visit www.tengu.com for updates.

Next door, former Japanese restaurant Isshin, was boarded up. An alcohol license is posted near the front door indicating that a Panini Cafe will open in its place, serving beer and wine. An employee of the Beverly Hills location says it is slated to open in March.
