More Food Rules: Michael Pollan Wants Your Food Rules

pollanrules.jpg
Depending on who you talk to, Michael Pollan is either Jesus Christ or the Pied Piper of Hamelin, or perhaps the chair of the NCAA rules committee. In any event, Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, etc.) is currently in the process of updating his popular Food Rules: An Eater's Manual. And he's asking for your input.

For the next two days (the deadline is February 27th), you can submit your own food rules to Pollan via Slow Food USA here. Yes, there is are incentives: "Three lucky contributors will receive a signed copy, and you may just see your rule in print!" Lucky you.

As Pollan wrote to Slow Food members a few days ago:

"Food Rules struck a chord with many people, who found that it helped them navigate what has become a treacherous food environment, whether in the supermarket or restaurant. Many of the rules were submitted by readers, and since publication I have received a number of excellent new ones. So I've decided to publish an expanded edition... I hope you'll consider contributing to the new book."

Have at it. And we'd love to know what rules you think Pollan should add (see the comments section below). If you're having trouble coming up with some, Slow Food has given you some helpful prompts: "Stop before you're full." "Don't buy cereals that change the color of the milk." "The whiter the bread, the sooner you'll be dead." How about, "Shoot beyond the perimeter." Hey, maybe if the NCAA extended the 3-point line, American obesity rates would improve along with shooting percentages.

The 3 point shot is the problem. People should have to hustle harder to score. And the USDA pyramid should be inverted so people have to stand on their head to read it.
