Why The LAUSD Didn't Let Jamie Oliver Into Their Schools: The Real Reasons [Chart]

Many here in Los Angeles were perplexed when the LAUSD refused to let British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver into their schools to film season 2 of his Food Revolution show. Banned from the cafeterias of this city's public schools, Oliver staged a campaign -- in the press, on Facebook, in a tomato suit -- to change the district's collective mind. It did not work, and Oliver wrapped the filming recently, without ever resolving the standoff. What exactly we'll see when the ABC series airs later on this year is anyone's guess. Maybe Project Runway: Tomato Suit Edition.

But what were the LAUSD's real reasons? It turns out they were far more complex than simply not wanting the chef and his TV cameras filming a bunch of schoolkids eating lunch.

Supposedly, though, his efforts in other areas have been a major failure, with students refusing to eat the "healthier" food. So perhaps these "reasons" were as good as any to say no.

This isn't news...the real reasons would be interesting. Also, I think you meant to use CHILDREN'S, not CHILDRENS' in that chart.

No, actually childrens' is correct in that case because it is both plural and possessive.

seems like perhaps the poor condition of food at the LAUSD is not the only thing that needs exposing...

...children is already plural...

How is this news? Looks like a pie chart the writer whipped up on their own for kicks. Where's the source of the survey from?

it would have shown how similar W.VA hicks and LA urbanites are in terms of their powerlessness to industrial foods' death grip on their childrens' plates in too hip to care LA

Goodbye Jamie, and good riddance.

I was hoping that someone in power at LAUSD was knowledgeable about food and cooking and didn't want that self-promoting doofus within 100 yards of a campus just on general principles. You know, rough Western justice.
