Kiss Your 40-Ounce Steak Goodbye: Porterhouse Bistro Closes

After a decade on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Carson Road, Porterhouse Bistro closed on Monday, February 28th. "We're just calling everyone about it now," said a hostess two days after the closure. The lease was up and the rental value increased, said owner Bobby Burton, who is also the merchant ambassador for Groupon.

A popular meeting spot for law groups and private parties, Porterhouse Bistro made a name for itself as a neighborhood restaurant selling large, juicy porterhouses in an intimate dining setting. "The brand is always there. We may bring it back in the future," said Burton.

The owner will remain with Groupon as well as help revamp the French Quarter Marketplace in West Hollywood, as a consulting partner. "We will renovate it and bring it up to par," he said of the 37-year-old restaurant on Santa Monica Boulevard. "It's almost a blessing in disguise," Burton said of the closure, noting his busy schedule traveling across the country to lead panel discussions for Groupon.

I guess we'll be heading to Mastro's...

We had a terrible experience.  Awful food and terrible service.  When we checked Yelp there were 36 complaints againts Porterhouse.  We knew it's days were numbered.  I'm still waiting for my coffee.

Incidentally Bobby Burton's special steak was inferior to the ten buck Norm's daily special.  He should be ashamed.  Groupon indeed.  it should be called Poopcon.

I am heartbroken to learn that Bobby has closed yet another wonderful place to have an outstanding dinner in the city. The ribeye steak, Porterhouse potato basket and cotton candy were fabulous. Bobby, please open some other incarnations of your restaurants around the South Bay, city and Westlake area when the time is right for you. We'll miss your restaurants.

oh, and note, groupon is a trendsetter with others like yelp, bloom spot, living social, open table as well as even the la weekly following suit. but buyer beware, bloom spot bastardizes the groupon effort by often offering less than 50% of a discount as well as having a load of restrictions in place like you must order an appetizer, entree and dessert. wtf?!? groupon is the winner and others can copy and sometimes do a majorly lousy way of doing it!

Nice article i knew that Microsoft and other giants like Google would have the deals business sooner or later and anyways the deals system is now very common but i dont think they would be able to fight against groupon deals.... i think groupon deals would be way ahead of Microsoft's because groupon is real!!!! and ms would be cloning groupon! so they better find their new ideas to put in business!
