The Thursday Edition: A Roundup of Newspaper Food Stories

What's the country reading today food-wise? Here's a roundup of some of the food-related stories from other newspapers, many of which print their food sections mid-week. And remember, even if you don't actually buy papers these days (or not; this paper is free), it's where most of your content comes from. Surf away. Just remember that spilling your macchiato over your keyboard is a lot more expensive than spilling it across newsprint.

At the Los Angeles Times, S. Irene Virbila gives 3 stars to The Royce (previously The Langham); the joys of grinding your own flour; and urban homesteading in Altadena.

In The New York Times, Michael Ruhlman reviews Nathan Myhrvold's Modernist Cuisine; the great egg debate: yolks vs. whites; and Eric Asimov considers sherry.

At The Washington Post, Beer Madness 2011; and the joy of poppy seeds.

Vegan dishes in the crockpot, at the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

At The Denver Post, rise and dine, or checking out great breakfast spots in Denver; and The Beerdrinker of the Year competition.

Chicago Tribune considers Malaysian cuisine.

The history of Guinness, in pictures, at The Baltimore Sun.

A recipe for chocolate Irish pie (as in, made with Irish cream), just in time for St. Patrick's Day, in the Yakima Examiner.

At the Chicago Sun-Times, cooking with beer; and the promise of the perfect kitchen at the Housewares Show.
