Swiftboat Veterans for Fruit: An Event in Support of Archi's Acres

Archi's Acres.jpg

The evils of Monsanto and its big produce brethren are well documented (just type "the evils of" into a google search bar), but the good things that small, organic farms are doing often fly under the radar. In the spirit of righting that wrong, the art gallery Chalk Los Angeles will host Archi's Acres' Showcase for the Veterans to Farm Movement this Sunday, April 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will include an introduction to Archi's Acres, a small organic farm north of San Diego, a screening of the documentary "A Greater Mission," which is about the Veterans to Farm movement, and best of all a chance to try some organic food straight from Archi's Acres. The event is free, and reservations are appreciated but not necessary.

Archi's Acres itself is an organic and sustainable farm with one extra mission: they created a program called Veterans Sustainability Agriculture Training, which gives veterans a place to learn all about sustainable farming in an environment designed to recreate the closeness of a military unit and also help the vets re-adjust to civilian life. At the event this Sunday Karen and Colin Archipley (the founders of Archi's Acres) will be around to tell you more and answer questions about their initiative. A free event about a small, sustainable farm that's dedicated to helping veterans? Sign us up.

Chalk Los Angeles: 12513 Venice Boulevard, Mar Vista.

Sounds like a good cause to this veteran, but the real Swiftboaters had an even better idea: keep a doofus do-nothing out of the People's House. Remember when reporters were finally forced to challenge Kerry on his lack of accomplishments over two decades in the Senate, and the campaign came back with three notable achievements, the most impressive of which (I kid you not) was championing the reauthorization of Arbor Day? Thanks for stimulating the memories, LA Weekly. You're dismissed.
