30 Scoops in 30 Days: It Begins!!!!!!!!

Plenty of people asked how we planned to follow up our 30 Burgers in 30 Days "triumph" (read: reason we no longer fit into our favorite jeans). We considered several options: tacos, tamales, calves' brains. All of those would have been lovely, but for summer, we wanted something cool and delicious, something that wold feel appropriate with our summer uniform of a stretchy and forgiving cotton maxi-dress. That would be ice cream. So tomorrow, June 1st, our newest Odyssey in Food begins: 30 Scoops in 30 Days.

Ground Rules: It can be ice cream, gelato or sorbet. It can be something in between. It cannot be frozen yogurt, which is almost never worth the words.

Both Gelato Bar and Lake Street truck are on my list. I've only been to the Handel's out in Upland, which is on my list, but I'm excited to learn there's a location in Redondo Beach. Thanks for the tips.

Handel's in Redondo Beach -- try the Hurricane with Caramel Cone Crunch. (Tell the manager it comes recommended by the guy who insisted they learn the recipe from the Upland location.)

Gelato Bar in either Studio City or Los Feliz -- an affogato made with Veneziana gelato is the best, Baby! Small size, so bring enough money for two.In case they ever get it back, the peach ice cream at Pacific Dining Car -- as delicious as a kid's memory of a real dining car.And don't worry about the plump. It's not much, and on you, it's pleasingly.

I was very excited to read all your burger updates! I am slowly working my way through all 30, but this task is made more difficult given my wife is Vegan. Do you think there will be any vegan friendly spots on your 30 scoop odyssey?

Yes, there will definitely be some vegan ice cream spots on this list. LA has a few really great vegan ice cream shops.
