Bibigo Expands to Beverly Hills, Replacing Mako

Bibigo, a year-old chain originating in Korea, is expanding throughout L.A. with a location in Westwood (opened nine months ago) and another on its way. An eighth location of the casual Korean order-at-the-counter and tableside dining restaurant will open in Beverly Hills in late August, replacing Mako on South Beverly Drive, says general manager Matthew Kim.

The 2000-square-foot space will house the restaurant's signature hot stone bibimbap bowls and fixings such as black pearl rice, an assortment of sauces, meat, tofu and chicken, gobo, kimchi and veggies. Bibigo, which means "to mix" is the company motto: The nationwide brand, owned by the CJ Group, aims to become a Korean Chipotle of sorts, says Kim. The Korea JoongAng Daily calls them the "McDonald's of bibimbap," though we find it a bit classier than that.
