Dining Below the Line: Could You Eat on $1.50 a Day?
How about $1.50 for five whole days? Charity group Global Poverty Project, an international non-profit organization campaigning to end Extreme Poverty, asks you to find out as part of their Live Below the Line campaign. Through this initiative they hope to help Americans gain an understanding of what the 1.4 billion people living below the extreme poverty line go through every day. In conjunction, the organization will host an event tomorrow called Dine Below the Line at Surfas Test Kitchen that will raise money for GPP.

The Live Below the Line campaign, which was actually launched by Hugh Jackman, started running in the U.S. on May 16th and continues through this Friday. (Though theoretically, you could challenge yourself at any time.)
On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., celebrity chef Jesse Brune (Private Chefs of Beverly Hills) will be charged with cooking a meal that comes in under $1.50 to be shared with all attendees. Brune says, "I am thrilled to be supporting the Live Below the Line initiative. For a chef the challenge of being creative with such a small budget is tough, but that's nothing to the real challenges for the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty. I hope through this event - Dine Below the Line - we can raise awareness for a great cause working to see the end of extreme poverty."
L.A. philanthropist Michael Dean Shelton will emcee, and filmmaker Chris Temple, who traveled through Guatemala for 3 months living on $1 a day, will speak as well.
