Stacked: food well built Opens in Torrance Next Tuesday

The exterior of Stacked in Torrance.

The first outpost of Stacked, a new technology-driven fast-casual chain, opens at noon next Tuesday, May 31st. The full name is "Stacked: food well built," and the concept is customization. Guests order their own hamburgers, pizza, salads and sausages via iPads mounted at each table, choosing everything: buns, toppings, sauces sides and more. Also on tap: Beer, wine, milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches.

The 160-seat, 6,300 square-foot restaurant, comes from the founders of BJ's Restaurants, inventors of the epically gluttonous Pizookie. Their idea is to bring higher quality gastropub fare to a lower price point. How? By keeping staffing costs low. More iPads means less waiters. Don't worry, if a robot server sounds too freaky and futuristic, you can still order via a flesh-and-blood human being.

Stacked: Del Amo Fashion Center, 3525 W. Carson St., Torrance. www.stacked.com.

No doubt tech people like myself will enjoy this place.  It's a fun place with a wonderful conglomeration of good food, homey new-age atmosphere, and surprisingly fun technological integration!  I love the idea of ordering and automatic payments through the iPad + CC swipe right on your table - integrated payment, tip, and signing.

I'll have to go back and create something different next time.
