L.A. Street Food Fest: Trucks, Beer, Breathing Room + No Waiting

The complaint is nothing new. You spend your hard-earned money on a food truck festival and end up stuck in lines windier than the yellow brick road, slow-cooking in the sun, only to head home only after just a bite or two. But that won't be the case at the 2nd Annual L.A. Street Food Fest Summer Tasting. They promise.

For this food festival, on Saturday, July 16th at the Rose Bowl, organizers are pulling a few tricks in an attempt to make lines "virtually non-existent." (Their words, not ours.) Attendance is capped at 4,500, and tickets are exclusively pre-sale. There will be three staggered attendance sessions, with the first beginning at 10 a.m., the second at 2 p.m. and the third at 6.

So what awaits once you enter this street food utopia? Well, dozens of trucks, of course, including household names like the Grilled Cheese Truck, the Flying Pig, Border Grill Truck, Crepe'n Around and oodles more.

New this year, Bill Esparza (Street Gourmet LA) has helped to curate a group of Baja chefs including Javier Plascencia, and the chef widely thought to have the best street cart in the world, Diego Hernandez of Corazon de Tierra. To top off the day (or night, depending on when you go), CoolHaus, Beachy Cream and the soon-to-open Mother Moo Creamery join together to become an ice cream social.

In addition to the food, there are also two Singha beer gardens in which to kick back and hang out. Non-alcoholic beverages are available too, along with raffle prizes, a DJ, chef demos and more. We could probably live without all that (give us good street fare and ample space to eat it in and we're happy) but considering this festival even boasts free parking, we honestly can't bring ourselves to complain about anything.

The very first street food fest had an imposing line, but by last summer's event at the Rose Bowl, organizers had lines well under control. That was a great event, and it sounds like the vendor roster could be even more interesting this time around, especially with the Baja presence. Looking forward to it.
