The 2nd L.A. Vegan Beer Fest: More Fun Without Alice Cooper

The taps scene from the last fest.

We wonder how former Roxy regular Alice Cooper would feel about the vegan festival set to take place at the club next weekend. Remember that Cooper, for all the guillotines and gory lyrics, a relatively sweet-tempered rock personality, once joked in an interview that his last day on earth would begin in Maui and end with Sir Paul McCartney succumbing to "a big, thick steak." Yet even the most dedicated carnivore, particularly one who in his heyday made a lot of beers disappear, would be at home at the 2nd L.A. Vegan Beer Festival on Saturday, June 25th.

Firestone Walker, Ballast Point, Eagle Rock, Deschutes, Eel River, Brouwerij West, and other fine brewers will be sharing their suds. Would you like a gnarly slab of unseasoned tempeh to go with that foaming mug? Probably not, but maybe potato-jackfruit taquitos from Seabirds, bánh mì from Mandoline Grill, or a cone of golden-brown curlies courtesy of Fresh Fries. The Silent Comedy, The Stripminers, and Mowgli's will play live, which vintage early 70s Alice Cooper might actually have more of a problem with than an excess of soy products. Organized by Tony Yanow (of Tony's Darts Away and Mohawk Bend), The Roxy, and vegan lifestyle blogger Quarry Girl, the bash will benefit the coffers of ARME (Animal Rescue Media Education), a cause even steak-hounds and barbecue enthusiasts can get behind. Purchase your tickets here.

The 2nd L.A. Vegan Beer Festival: Saturday, June 25th (from 1-5 p.m.), at The Roxy Theatre (9009 West Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles); advance general admission tickets are $40, limited VIP tickets are $50 and good for early admittance at noon, no lines, and a separate party area with "specialty kegs", and non-drinker/designated driver tickets cost $15.

Ugh, why is Vegan Beer Fest at the Roxy?  30 years ago I would have been all over that.  But, now?  Gross.
