3 Teens Killed, 35-Year-Old Woman Arrested after DWI Collision near Peyton Street

BAIRD, TX (May 15, 2024)Ryan Bilby, Layni Potter, and Madi Buchanan were killed in a DWI collision on West 3rd Street, early Sunday morning.

Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:00 a.m., near Peyton Street on May 5th.

Reports indicate that a southbound Kia Spectra collided with a Chevrolet truck approaching the intersection on West 3rd. The impact ejected three passengers from the Kia onto the road: 18-year-olds Layni Potter and Madi Buchanan, and 16-year-old Ryan Bilby.

Due to the severity of their injuries, authorities declared all three deceased at the scene. Emergency responders transported another individual from the Kia to a nearby hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Following preliminary investigations, authorities arrested 35-year-old Ashlie Haynes, the Chevrolet truck driver, for DWI after a breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of 0.08. Haynes was then booked into the Callahan County Jail.
