Most Expensive Restaurants in the Country

Ever wonder what the most expensive restaurants in the country are? So did we. Thanks to Bundle, an online money management company, we now get a cartoon breakdown of the top 25 most expensive restaurants in the country (based on average check size) as well as the most expensive prix fixe menu prices.

So what's the most expensive restaurant in the country and where does Los Angeles fit into the picture?

With an average check of $975, Thomas Keller's The French Laundry ranks first. Funnily enough, with an average check of $883, Thomas Keller's Per Se ranks second. Considering Per Se was designed to be a mirror image of its big sister restaurant -- the big blue door at the entrance of New York City's Per Se is an exact replica of the door at Napa's French Laundry -- we can't say we're too surprised.

Los Angeles has only one restaurant in the top 25: Mélisse ranked sixth most expensive restaurant with an average check of $576. San Diego has one restaurant ranked as well: Addison Restaurant was sixteenth with an average check of $487.

Bundle says that the most expensive prix fixe in the country is Manhattan's seafood mecca Le Bernardin, costing $330. The ranking is a bit curious, however, considering that this is the expanded chef's menu which includes wine pairings, and none of the other restaurants include wine pairings. Le Bernadin offer the same menu without wine pairings for $190.

As for the Per Se and The French Laundry, they offer second and third most expensive prix fixe menus ($295 and $270, respectively). These prices do not include wine pairings.

To calculate these figures, Bundle looked at data given to them by Citi, the U.S. government and third-party groups, filtering out catering services and wedding venues.
