Ben & Jerry's Releases Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

Back in June, those of us whose love for ice cream is rivaled perhaps only by our love for Alec Baldwin were intrigued by the rumor that Ben & Jerry's was coming out with a Schweddy Balls ice cream flavor. Too good to be true, we thought. Just like the rumor that Baldwin was going to run for mayor of New York. But it seems that it was true (the ice cream rumor, at least). Today the ice cream company that brought us Stephen Colbert's AmeriCone Dream flavor released Schweddy Balls ice cream. What's in it? Rum-spiked vanilla ice cream with both fudge-covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls. A surfeit of balls, as there should be.

Schweddy Balls refers, of course, to the utterly hilarious Alec Baldwin SNL skit, in which Baldwin plays cookie maker Pete Schweddy on a fake ~~PBS~~ NPR food radio show. Ben & Jerry's has thoughtfully put the skit on their website.

"For a long time, I thought that 'Here Lies Pete Schweddy' would end up on my tombstone. Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won't go with me to the great beyond," said Baldwin on the happy occasion. As for whether the actor (30 Rock, your ad here ___ ) will reprise his role as Pete Schweddy when he hosts SNL for a record 16th time on the show's September 24th premier, well, you're just going to have to watch and see. At least you know what you'll be eating.

Another Baldwin fan -- all right! Hey, did you ever hear the naughty phone call that Alec made to his daughter? Since LA Weekly comments software won't accept lengthy URLs, here's something to Google: An enraged Alec Baldwin unleashed a volcanic tirade of threats and insults on his 11-year-old daughter. Gosh, it's almost Shakespearean humor!!! I'll bet the kid will cherish that recording to her dying day forever! Fortunately, in the Age of the World Wide Web, it will always be available to her and her little friends.Let's see, (1) one Squid Inker likes Mr. Marky Murky, who put some middle-aged guy's eye out because the poor fellow had carelessly allowed himself to be born Vietnamese, and (2) another is sweet on a tub of lard who screams obscenities at his 11-year-old (soon to be 50-year-old) daughter, who made the unforgivable mistake of acting like a kid. So, (3) anyone out there panting for NFL quarterback/dog-fancier Michael Vick?

Well, you will probably not be surprised to learn that I do think Vick is a very good quarterback. And I think that most people deserve second chances, and that there should be a separation between a public figure's public and private lives. Just my opinions.

Great piece Amy! Can't wait to try this! As the great cat lover would say, nom nom nom! Alec Baldwin is a brilliant comedian. Have you seen his ads for New Era with John Krasinski? So funny! I support your comment re the phone call with his daughter. Many of us have families in which you could find incidents where members did not act much better than Mr. Baldwin. Fortunately for most of us it doesn't get published on the internet for all the world to see forever and for always. None of us really knows anything about Mr. Baldwin's actual relationship with his daughter (before or after that call). As for Mr. Vick - when I think about the cruelty involved in multiple cases--I can't quite get myself to where you are at, but I can respect the point you are making.
