White House homebrew
When former Marine Sergeant Dakota Meyer traveled to the White House last week to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, he made one request: to share a beer with the president. The food blog Obama Foodorama reports that the beer was homebrewed by White House chefs with equipment the Obamas purchased for about $200 of their own money.

The beer President Obama shared with the war hero? White House Honey Ale, brewed with honey harvested from beehives in the presidential garden.

White House Assistant Chef Sam Kass is named as a leader of the homebrew project. He sought advice from Dogfish Head brew master Sam Calagione and Chicago brewery Goose Island's head brewer Greg Hall for working with honey, an ingredient that presents some challenges to ferment with consistent results. Hall's feedback? "Today I tried Sam Kass' Honey Blonde and Honey Porter homebrews in the White House kitchen, showed the WH honey very nicely, bravo Sam."

Very few guests have been invited to drink the White House beers. When can we try some? Unless there's a Presidential Medal of Freedom for food blogging we're unaware of, the answer is never. We'll hold on to that "hope and change" thing and write a full report if we ever get invited.

At least our president knows what's important... homebrew.

"We'll hold on to that 'hope and change' thing ...."

It's good to hear that SOMEbody isn't worried about the 40% increase in the national debt since the previous administration (from $10T to $14T), the 9%+ unemployment rate, the costly strategy errors trying to force a "green" economy that the marketplace clearly won't support, the new war in Libya and ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the constant undignified whining from our president that it's all someone else's fault .... I hope you'll review some of the "inside baseball" tomes that will shortly emerge claiming that problems A, B, and, most likely, C are the fault of someone else -- certainly not [fill_in_name_of_former_Obama_administration_official].

This is a food writer on a food blog. If the white house burns the quiche then maybe he should write something negative.

Sheesh... lighten up, Francis...

What % was the jump in the national debt from the Clinton Administration to the Bush Administration?  How about the unemployment rate? What's "undignified" is ignoring recent history and pretending this administration didn't start in a deep crater created almost entirely by the previous one... what's "dignified" about revisionist history?
