Chozen Kosher Ice Cream: Babka, Rugelach Flavors + No Conversion Required

Chozen's Matzoh Crunch
Many miracles have befallen the Chosen People, not the least of which is Chozen ice cream, a New York-based kosher creamer, which opened online sales at the end of last month. Pints of the miraculous milchig were previously available only in Texas and the New York metropolitan area, where they were conceived by Ronne Fisher and her daughters Meredith Fisher and Isabelle Krishana during a late night cookie kibbitz.

The concept was to capture the creamed essence of their favorite Jewish treats, using secret family recipes and local ingredients. A kitchen table concoction done right. Ronne scoured Brooklyn bakeries for the perfect rugelach, chocolate babka, and coconut macaroons to mix into her cinnamon, vanilla, or almond kosher creams, preserving each holiday sweet at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. And thus, Chozen was born.

Their small but strong flight of flavors has since grown to include Chocolate Gelt (milk chocolate coins in chocolate ice cream), Apples and Honey (honey ice cream with chunks of green apple), and Matzoh Crunch (vanilla ice cream with chocolate and caramel covered matzoh).

Luckily, "getting Chozen" requires no act of conversion (neither does enjoying it, like our other favorite Jewish things: Yentl and Adam Sandler). Just a computer and a credit card. And a mailing address. While shipping in a styrofoam box packed with dry ice will ensure your ice cream arrives frozen, it won't last 40 years in the desert, or even 2 days in your P.O. Box. So best to ship somewhere it can be transferred directly to a real freezer.

Chozen ice cream is available online, as well as in select stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Texas. $25 for five of their signature pints, excludes shipping.

Sigh. Shipping is $50 for $25 worth of ice cream. Makes sense, since it has to go overnight, but still a bummer. Will have to try it in NY.
