International Food Blogger Conference 2011: This Year, Blog on the Beach

If you're a Los Angeles food blogger, you might want to plan on spending the weekend of November 11-13 scribbling on your iPad and uploading pictures of chocolate-dipped madeleines in Santa Monica, rather than in your kitchen somewhere else. No, Roy Choi is not holding a pop-up kimchi and taco-making event, although that's not a bad idea. Rather the 2011 International Food Blogger Conference is being held in Santa Monica this year, just a few blocks from the beach.

This conference will run for three days and feature Australian chef and cookbook author Michael Moore, author Kathleen Flinn, food stylist and photographer Matt Armendariz, blogger Cybele Pascal, former Oregonian food editor Martha Holmberg, and the Weekly's own restaurant critic Jonathan Gold.

Organized by Zephyr Adventures and online food news source Foodista, this is the third IFBC, and will feature educational sessions, workshops and seminars. Oh, and lots of what are charmingly called "networking opportunities." The conference will take place at the DoubleTree Guest Suites Santa Monica Hotel, which is on 4th street, and will run you $350 for the registration fee (register here).

And yes, there will be food. ("95% of attendees say the IFBC has the best food and wine of any blogging conference!") You can probably even blog about it.

$350?! For that amount I, and I suspect other blogger types, would go the two-fisted route for samples: One hand to eat; the other to stuff as much possible in a tote bag.
