Thirty-Eight Special: The Quest for Craft Beer at Ultimate Flight Night

We're in the home stretch of an L.A. Beer Week that has, to this point, essentially been a non-stop nine-day party at beer bars across our fine city. Sure to be one of the biggest parties of them all will be "Ultimate Flight Night" at 38 Degrees in Alhambra tonight, October 20, from 6 p.m. until the authorities close the joint down. Clay Harding, co-owner and head pilot for the night (yes, he will actually be in a pilot's uniform) will also have the lovely ladies of 38D in full flight attendant grab (we mean D for Degrees; get your mind out of the gutter).

The only thing Harding takes more seriously than his occasional theme nights is his craft beer, and the line up of draft beer flights he has planned is simply sick. Fourteen flights will be yours to choose from including Kern River, Beachwood, Eagle Rock, Green Flash, Stone (rarities), The Bruery, and Russian River. As if that selection wasn't crazy good enough, Harding is tossing in four flights of bottle shares including Russian River's famous sours, a Lost Abbey/Port Brewing combo, and four tasters of vintage Stone Double Bastard. The beer list would be unbelievable if we didn't know Harding's penchant for over-the-top showmanship and relentless enthusiasm for bringing craft beer to the masses.
Need more? Of course you do. It's L.A. Beer Week. How about that Eric Giddens, co-owner of Kern River (winner of the gold medal for Citra at the GABF), will be in the house? Will 38 have the 2011 Beer of the Year Citra DIPA on tap? Hell, yes. Say you need more?
