La Feria de Los Moles:
The 4th annual Mole Fair is an all-day event, featuring 13 moles from the states of Puebla and Oaxaca, the two states known for the estimable sauce. Come prepared, as last year's event drew about 20,000 people. The fair is organized by the immigrant community of Puebla and Oaxaca residing in United States, and is sponsored by City Councilman Jose Huizar and the Los Angeles Council of Mexican Federations in North America (COFEM). In addition to many kinds of mole (pronounced 'moh-leh' if you have not spent near as much time at Guelaguetza as you should), there will be family attractions and traditional activities, a kids area, folkloric performances and art.

Oktoberfest at Lucques:
Lucques will be having their first of hopefully many Oktoberfest Sunday Suppers, a pretty awesome menu of German-inspired dishes, including smoked ham hocks braised in
beer with onions; house-made sausages with roasted apples and sauerkraut; herbed spaetzle with wild mushrooms, winter squash, Bavarian cheese and chestnuts. Sommelier Caroline Styne will be serving great beer -- her "Styne's Steins" -- to accompany Goin's food. Staff and diners are encouraged to wear lederhosen, etc. Some of us can think of no better way to spend a cool October evening than to put on a dirndl and go eat Goin's food in that patio, of all places. But we're admittedly biased.
